I thought my two problems were related, but...
The check engine light would occasionally come on - the engine would then run rough. In addition, the car developed a hiccup/hesitation (one or two times) upon moderate/hard acceleration - repeated as you went through the gears.
I changed the cam angle sensor (just took off old and put in new with no adjustments). The check engine light no longer comes on and the engine does not run rough. The hiccup/hesitation upon acceleration still exists - same frequency and intensity as before.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
(I'm hoping to do my first track day at Watkins Glen with her at the end of the month; I'd sure like to get this "bug" out first!)
Thanks!

Changing the CAS seems to have solved the problem in that the CEL no longer comes on. Howver if you have changed it without resetting the base timing I would expect that to be out which could well give the symptoms you have. Do you know if the base timing was correct before you fitted the new CAS?

How many miles do you have on the car? Not sure if this will help but I had a hiccup/hesitation on hard accelerating that was only solved once I replaced my injectors. I upgraded to a higher flow injector and now my car is as smooth as can be under hard accelerations. My hiccup/hesitation was always bugging me and I spent a lot of time going through the car including resetting the timing, replacing the CAS then resetting the timing again and so on. If you have a lot of miles on your Elan it might be worth looking at, I know you can have injectors cleaned for cheap

and back again, so i saw the main page upgrade guide on the injectors and i just got off the blower with RC ? they said the 550cc was destined for a 16v 4cylinder at 400HP, i guess i'm going to go and dyno my car and see if its leaning out at high RPMS, i was hoping the instability i'm getting was similar to the others i've seen fix with new injectors, RC will take my old injectors and service them at the least.
