Interior Fan

I have a problem with my interior fan. The first two low speeds don't work. The speeds three and four work fine but not the first two. I have checked all fuses. They are fine. I have looked for a relay (told that it has a seperate one for low speeds), but in the electrical maintenance section it says 'Low speed fan relay(A/C cars only)'. Mine just had a gap, no relay. I don't know what A/C means (yes I'm probably thick) so I switch the relays and tried one in there anyway. Still no joy.
I'm guessing this will be a simple thing....well I'm hoping anyway.

Just in case it makes any difference mine is a 91 SE turbo, RHD.

Any suggestions appreciated.

a/c = air conditioning. I had also heard that the two lowest speeds were on a separate fuse, so I think you're on the right track. However I can't help with the solution as I've not studied those bits of the wiring diagram.

Do you have a circuit diagram and handbook?

I had a problem with the switch when I first got it. It uses a sliding mechanism that connects different posts, on mine some of the posts were tarnished and did not make good contact. I took it apart and cleaned it, no problems in 3+ years...

You can test easily/quickly by unplugging the switch and jumpering across the different positions with a length of wire.

For what is is worth, I had the same problem (fan position speeds 1 & 2 did not work) althought it was NOT the switch, I cleaned everything and it did not fix a thing, it was not until I removed my fan (in the processes of fixing something else) that I discovered the problem.

My problem was the one of the resistor located inside the fans electrical connection was busted and had to be re-soldered in order to complete the circuit again.

Where to locate the resistor block inside the fan:
Locate the connector junction on the fan itself under the passenger side of the dash. There should be two screws that hold the electrical junction (resistor block) into the fan if I remember correctly. If you remove the two screws holding in the electrical junction you can then remove the entire resistor assemble. The resistors are nothing more than three or four coils of wire (can't remember if it was three or four) , check to see if any of the coils have a break causing an open circuit, re-solder and break if located. Worked great after the fix and I nave had the problem again.

I'm not entirely sure because I know you're US based LotusM100. Would I be right in assuming it's the driver's side on UK models?

Just as I expected, plenty of useful suggestions and all inside 24hours. Thanks all very much. I will do some digging around this weekend, time permitting.
Clearly I'll be back here in a few days time if nothing works !

I'm not entirely sure because I know you're US based LotusM100. Would I be right in assuming it's the driver's side on UK models?

Sorry, I did not check the manual and just assumed that it would be on the opposite of the US (always in on passenger side) but I think you are right Sy.

this is from my tired memory, but I remember that the fresh air intake is on the LH side of the car for RHD which leeds me to know that the HVAC motor (LARGE Round) assembly will be under the LH dash ?? I can't imagine how they get the steering shaft and all the electricals in there if they had the motor on the RH side for a RHD car ? ?
