Hi All,

This was not what I was expecting my first post here to be about !

Having lurked around here for a while I finally took the plunge and got a 'H' reg frost silver Elan - hurrah !

It needed a few bits doing to it so I took it to Sinclaire - as it was the nearest Lotus garage to where I lived and seemed to have a pretty good reputation .......

Got a call from Wayne yesterday morning to inform em that they had a break in and my Elan was one of the ones stolen !

I am not Happy !

Anyone else here affected ?

Dids they allude to how many other Lotus cars were lifted?

I'd be quizin the garage.......its supposed to be there security problem.....once its in their charge anyway.....
as for the car.......let us know the reg and other defining features just incase it pops up somewhere.......if there's an elan out there I bet this group could spot it!!!!....I think most of the UK owners are on here (lurking or otherwise)......
just a thought (and I hope you get it back soon!!!)

Yes, I'm with Gareth - give us the reggo (or most of it) and we''l keep a look out.

Chassis number would be good, too.

Hope the insurance co. are on the ball.

I've not heard of many stolen Elans in the past.

Sinclaires appear to be taking responsibility for the event. Here's a reply from a Sinclaire's employee (from the BBS).

Hi Guys

Yes Wayne & I were sorting this out all day with the police/insurance yesterday. Mark spent most of the day upping our already tight security. The staff are of course all gutted but it seems that it is becoming quite common according to the police.

Luckily due to our high tech security system only a couple of cars were stolen. Apparantly there were also another couple of local garages targeted as well.

The parties concerned have been informed and will be cared for (we don't pay 40k insurance for nothing!!)

However anyone with any concerns please do not hesitate to call us so that we can set your mind at rest. 01708 343904.

Thanks for that Si, I was desperately trying to get on here to post but seemed to be going around in circles with my login?!

(my fault I am rubbish with computers)

Anyhow as said above a rotten thing to happen, we had just finished the works to the cars as well!

However, luckily it could have been a lot worse, but thanks to a jolly good security system it wasn't.

Hopefully Matt will be sorted out soon as the Insurance co are being very helpful.

Seems an odd choice for a professional to take - relatively low value, very easily spotted; maybe they were amateurs, & only took the two cars that weren't clamped? Must be a good chance of it turning up (particularly if you post the numbers here) but by then you should have been re-imbursed, hopefully.

Id keep a close eye on the likes of ebay too, the car whole may be of relatively low value but sold piecemeal you could make a tidy sum from the vehicle
