Exhaust production tips ?

Postby lwalling » Sat 08.10.2005, 04:02

Any tips or screen shots I could offer to a local shop - or - however unlikely, anyone know of a good shop to stop into in or around Hickory/Statesvile/Mooresville North Carolina ?

I have a Dynomax 2.5" cat, and a Dynomax 2.5" race muffler, I figure thats plenty adequate for the flow needs of the car.

I have a .9 bar upgrade chip from our friend Alan here on the forum as well. Once this rain lets up I'll install it and give the car a try as is.

I also have a "blow off valve" pipe kit along with a free flow filter from Top End Performance on its way to me.

I hope this group of items will bump the output up to something more along the lines of what the car REALLY should have.

Iwalling,
have a look here:
http://www.awsnet.co.uk/lec/type.asp?iT ... offset=128
and here:
http://www.awsnet.co.uk/lec/search.asp? ... rch=Search.

If these links don't work, just go to http://www.awsnet.co.uk/lec/ and type exhaust into the search box.

Lots of pictures of custom installations.

On some of them, a second silencer has been added to cut down the droning which can be wearing on a long journey. I have that on my car:

Thanks for all of your replies.

I installed the "Everest" ECM upgrade today.

The car runs OK but seems to miss/stutter under boost at high RPM's sometimes, for instance, I took it around the block after letting it warmup after install everything seemed fine, went back to take my Wife around the block and the strong miss stutter was there as soon as I hit the road.

The boost comes on progressively "as advertised" and makes the car feel much stronger, though.

I have not upgraded the exhaust, yet, but will this next week along with the pressure release valve and open air filter element, though I doubt the latter will make any difference in a problem such as this. Exhaust - maybe ?

Any tips where to look for problems? This car has 8k miles on it.

Thanks.

Monty,
I agree. I think Iwalling also discusses this misfire here: http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/v ... php?t=5470
where I suggested gapping the plugs properly.

I continued the misfire discussion here, though it looks to be solved so far.

As for the exhaust side, I don't see a precat on my car ?

We're talking like right off the manifold right ? Someone may have removed it previously. I already noticed the car has no muffler (it's not really loud either).

If there is a precat there and I'm blind it'll be gone and it along with the factory cat replaced with the big 2.5" unit I bought - if I can I'll move it forward a little bit to try to heat it up fast enough to do something "catalytic".

Though it sounds like someone blowing air through a straw with an air compressor now at speed with the top down so I imagine it definately needs an upgrade ! LOL.

This is pretty fun anyway, I love my Lotus' vehicles.

Thanks for the link to that thread, I have never seen a precat structured like that before and wouldn't have thought about it.

I guess now the challenge will be removing the damn thing.
