Paul, that does seem a lot for an old man like you, just changed mine to cover Blacky & it was £228 inc protection. Are you in a high risk area or something ?, i would be asking your insurance co why yours seems a lot higher than others, might be a very good reason, but at least then you would know.

Woody, its Fortis which is part of the directchoice co. Could of got it for £185 if i was prepared to have a £450 excess, but settled on £250 & 4000mls a year. One thing i did check was the winderscreen cover, its unlimited with a £60 excess. www.directchoice.co.uk

Just been through the whole insurance palava.

Best quotes came from, in order:

Direct Choice - very un-professional to deal with I found
Liverpool Victoria - v close behind DC
Lancaster
Footman James - was with and were now playing silly buggers

However. I will only accept a quote which will provide agreed valuation. Book price will probably only insult me and make a write off even more heart breaking.

Soooo, Lancaster were the best 01480 484848.

Blipi is insured for £11-12k with hard top valuation £1500 - 2k Full breakdown and home start. Cost me a LOT more but worth it for peace of mind.

3 years Blipi partnership as from tomorrow! :D celebrated by a trip to the Ultima garage

It's that time of year again and what a surprise my insurance has gone up again, last year I paid £400 on My S2, my renewal from Adrian Flux this year came in at £500!

After a few a search around I mananged to get it down to £320, what a result.

Just insured my new Elan with More Than. They wouldn't extend my insurance for any car (even a tatty old Metro) for my eldest to learn to drive on so they might not be worth a try until you've reached a certain age....

I rang up to transfer the insurance from the family bus (Peugeot 406 diesel) which was £280 last July, fully comp, wife & I, protected no claims, legal protection and was told it was going to be about £30. Initially, I though that it wasn't too bad at round about £380 for a year but I could probably do better. I was staggered when he told me the cheque would be in the post in the next few days!

Looks like the cost of my insurance is going to be less than £200! :D

If you want a laugh and you're over 50, try Saga - they don't insure "that sort of car"!

Perhaps your not old enough. I am nearer 60 and they insure mine for £280 which is cheaper than my MX5 also insured with them. Reason I use Saga is that once you earn no claims bonus on 1 car they will give you it on any other car in your name. Some other companies want you to earn it on all cars. So if your a doddering old sole with more than 1 car they can be reasonable

All sounds a bit fishy to me!

More Than are the same and matched full NCD on a second car. They wouldn't touch me however, when I wanted to add my 17 year old son, so had to move one policy to NU.

Not sure if I already mentioned my quote (don't think I did) - Footman James @ £260. No 'no claims' as seperate trade policy and DD banned in 2001  .

Car garaged and minimal mileage per year (3000 IIRC). Cat1 immob.

A bargain if there ever was one!

Just been searching around for Kermits insurance, after a few outrageous quotes i have managed to get a quote of £172.50p, fully comp !! this is with 5 yrs no claims discount protected, £100 excess, £65 excess for windscreen & a limited mileage of 5000miles. An agreed valuation of £6000. With all modifications declared.
I have read through the policy thoroughly & can see no dodgy small print.
The quote is from Adrian Flux, (royal & sun alliance.)
