Do you have any other options to get to a stock outlet configuration now that the V-Band adaptor does not look feasible? If the result of your work is a bolt on turbo upgrade kit that is available for purchase, but it does not go with the stock j-pipe, then that will affect my interest in Stevo's Stiffy project. Have you checked out what he is working on for downpipe replacement?
I relly dont think that will be possible as I'm going to do my own downpipe.
I will try and post more picture tomorrow of the Disco Potato on the car. I'm borrowing a used and abused one from work to test fit before making a commitment to use it. It should work fine though.

Does the DP look as though the mounting location would be about the same as the T3? I'm not too concerned about the location of the compressor intake side, but if the turbine outlet is in the same position relative to the turbine inlet as the T3, it should "drop in" in the place of the T3 I have now.
I have an itch to get a GT28RS before I finalize my system just to make a provision for any additional size difference if I need to. Could your work beater be "on loan" for a week or so for a test fit?

Although if it has the flapper valve outlet, it may not work with my external wastegate-style flange...
You've also got a PM, Russ!

Can't have it longer than over night because they are using it for all the kits they're putting together for SEMA. Sorry can't tell you what cars they are, but one will be a Twin Turbo kit for at least 500HP.

I don't have the pictures loaded yet but did test it out. The Disco Potato (GT2860RS) actually fits better than the GT2854R. The clearance (4 inches or 100mm) to the power steering pump is the same because the Turbine housing dimensions are basically the same. The clearance between the compressor housing and the front is approx. 1/2 -5/8 inch vs. 1 inch for the smaller Turbo. I'm using an adapter that's 1/2 inch thick. The actuator is rotated further away from the exhaust manifold (a very good thing), and the compressor outlet will be pointing up and toward the cam cover slightly. With a 90 degree bend it clears the hood by a approx. 1/4-3/8 of an inch. Because I'll be actuator chalenged, I won't be able to have the compressor pointing down because it will hit the actuator. If I can figure out a clean way I may go with an external wastegate, but I'll probably leave it as is.

No, buit good guess.

I hope to have pictures in a little bit of my solution. You'll have to lose the AC compressor, though.

I closed the hood and reached up from below. It feels like 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch clearance. The red boner will be replaced by a black boner, but I don't think we want to go there. Not that there's anything wrong that!

Looks like a big 'ol intake on the compressor (2.75"?), but then I realized it steps down before the wheel. Is the outlet of the compressor 2" or 2.25"?

The compressor inlet is 3 inches and the compressor outlet is 2 inches.

Russ...is there a good reason why the compressor intake has nasty looking angles rather than blended radii, or is it for ease of production? Just curious

Brian,
I know it looks really bad. If you look at the drawing and 3D model (Done in Kodama Japan) it shows a smooth transition. Because of a casting issue by the current supplier it was changed. Gas stand testing has showed absolutly no measurable performance degradation between the 2 variations so they decided not to look fo another supplier.

but what about the angle on your intake red rocket? i guess since it is upstream from the turbo it doesn't matter AS much . . .

Instead of the sharp 90 you see I'll be using a smooth radius 90. I agree not perfest, but not bad either. Installations are always a compromise unless you design the car around the drivetrain.

Interesting...are you able to measure any benefit from carefully blending a nicely radiused bellmouth right up to the compressor wheel?

For a full on drag race car with no filter, yes. For street/track cars with filter, no.
