Windscreen Band

Does anyone know for sure whether the banding on the outer edge of the screen at the top should go straight across or if there is a piece that juts out from it for the rear view mirror base to attach to? I have been told that Lotus supply the straight across version. I have looked at several Elan pictures and they show the straight across version however my existing screen has the jutting out version. Any info most welcome.

It seems to be a bit random. My S2 goes straight across but the car built before mine has the black going over the mirror
as far as I know both cars have the original screen.
One of life's little mysteries I guess.
it's a bit off topic but if anyone can tell me why the drivers door latch has 3 spacers and the passenger side only has one I'll sleep better at night

I think the screen band was subject of a Service Bulletin. No time to check now though.

You are absolutely correct. Bulletin 1994/09 refers. Straight across band is the standard supplied by Lotus now. The jutting out bit should be constructed according to the Bulletin instructions. Thanks to everyone for the info. What a gold mine this site is
