Hi, I am the new owner of a silver Elan in Spain and this is my first post.
Well, there are several minor problems with the car, nothing that can't be sorted out, one of them is that the engine will stall at once when the AC button is depressed, so I suspect a locked AC compressor.
I see the part# is DKV-14D but is there any cheap source for these?

The compressor is made in Japan by Diesel Kiki, model # DKV-14D

it happens everytime I push the AC button, no matter what rpm, I have tried it at idle and at speed, with the car stopped or moving.
What happens is that the car simply dies, just like an instant fuel injection cut-off.
I have a couple of questions: Did all Elans have A/C?, and if some did not, was the A/C button still in the dash? Where is the compressor located?
I am asking this because my car has an aftermarket GT alarm system, and it could be related by the way the engine shuts-off.

I used to have an engine cut off switch wired to my cigarette lighter as an anti-theft device. It may be an similar "feature". Fits the problem description exactly.

Well, I just revised my engine bay, no A/C dryer and no compressor, so in fact I don't have A/C.
But the fact is that the button is there and when pressed the engine dies, it is probably wired to the aftermarket alarm, since I am going to change the stereo soon I will remove the dash an see what it looks like.
