Just recieved by new stainless sports exhaust system from SJs.
Decided on this one on the basis of KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid)

Thought I'd share a few pics before it goes on the car on Thursday..
(and get rid of the the short term Gum Gun.....2000+ miles later...)

I don't want to sound like an arse mate, but I'd phone SJ's about the weld finish on that back box shown in the last picture.
Surely it shouldn't be discoloured like that. Comments anyone?

I agree with Sy, doesn't look very attractive on the only bit you are going to see.

Thats cause it`s a standard exhaust but made of SS. I`m supprised that SJ`s do the down pipe shame they don`t make them in 21/2". Dans maybe u could try and knock out the squish bit

If you buy a standard Janspeed SS exhaust for the SE, I am pretty sure it does not have the squish, you put it in if needed.

well, due to the temporay fix on the exhuast failing and in danger of loseing the whole thing on a road somwhere, I have had the new one fitted as is.

Very pleased with it so far, the garage found it went on ok.
Sounds very good, and looks pretty smart to. (can't see the welding colours really )

One comment from the garage was that they thought there was a bracket missing from the car that should support the front pipe, they suggested this might have contributed to the demise of the old one. Not knowing anything about I said I'd get back to them!
Looking through the Service Manual P.511 shows this bracket:


Question: Can/Should this be fitted to a pre '91 Elan?

Will hopefully get under the car on the weekend and check this out myself this weekend but just wondered if anyone had an idea?

Have to admit I was a bit dissapointed to see the squish in it. I thought I had read somewhere that was unsquished, should've asked maybe

I was keen to keep the car pretty close to standard so wasn't too bothered though.... can get myself into enough trouble as its for now

Also: the local garage I used work on a variety of sports and standard cars, but said they had another Elan in for MOT last week, apparently a regular customer, BRG, VERY low mileage, show room condition, only done a few miles since the last MOT. Anyone on here in the Cirencester area??

Well... the saga continues...... after the comments here that the back of the silencer doesn't look to good, it would appear that all was not well with the internals.....after about 400 miles the exhaust has developed a very annoying rattle that come in around medium revs....drives you crazy at 80mph on the motorway. Took it back to the garage fitted it and they have confirmed that it is the internals of the silencer, somethings loose.

To be fair, I contacted SJs and thay said straight away that they would get a replacement up to me, which should be here tomorrow, but it is very dissapointing to have something like that basically faulty from the start. And to also get the car back in the garage to get them swaped over, and post the old one back... all in all a pain in the arse that I don't need right now!!!!!!!!!!!!

And all I can do is cross my fingers and hope the next one is better!!!
