Are you saying that you can dispense with the EGR completely without any consequences? Does it bring up any fault codes? The manual says it may cause detonation on acceleration and overheating, have you noticed any?

I wouldn't say there aren't any consequences (it is an emissions control), but I have not noticed any change in performance nor have I ever seen a code pop up. Definitely no problems with acceleration. As for overheating, I have had problems but they appear to be unrelated (blown head gasket, decreased airflow through radiator, etc). Not sure how the EGT would cause overheating as it puts hot exhuast gas back into the intake. I'll check that manual section...

About 700 years ago Bill Luton graced us with a lengthy diatribe about why the EGR causes your car to run cooler. Maybe if you search the old boards you can find it. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but he explained the science behind it.

Hmmm...interesting. Darn, I like how things look much cleaner in the engine bay without it.

The diffuser talk was very short, Greg has serious doubts (doupts?) that it will not actually work and instead it may destroy Elan's aerodynamics. Considering that I very often drive at high speeds, I have to side up with Gregs decision not to alter the rear bumper.

Anyways, todays menu had a small surpize for me! Can you notice the difference on the folowing picture? Those who follow this thread should do so with ease.

If you dont manage to spot any difference on the picture just Download this short Video http://www.sh4rk.gr/Sh4rk10.mpg 1.2MB of size and just 7 secs long

Yes! This is something I have still to do on the Flying Cat project, but mine must be a guarded toggle switch, apparently. I've also got to have the ignition switch mounted somewhere on the dash and remove the steering lock mechanism.

Sorry C, I seem to have given those members with less attention to detail a bit of a clue!

Do you realize how unbelievably lucky you are to have a shop of that caliber take such a close personal interest in your car? You can't buy that.

Exhaust pipeline is 64mm (2.5 inches) and exhaust muffler (?) is 100mm (4 inches). Did a Dyno a day before installation and then just afte instalation and the difference was of +18hp power but with a lot of smoother and steady power curve line. I think if I dig out my stuff I could find those dynos.

Costas,

What a sound on start up :smt023

Need to ask u something, i`m fitting a pipercross induction kit but i don`t know were to fit the air feed hose and want it in a more direct flow of air from the front of the car. I know u fitted a air feed to u`r open filter, were are u picking up the inlet air from?

Monty if you are reffering to that extra hose we installed (that is pictured below) to drive some extra air to the Air Intake Filter, I cant describe it so I will have to take a picture of it from beneath. I promise to do so til Saturday (as well as the spark plugs for Doc :-) )

As a out of experience suggestion though, I am telling to put the heat shield separator, it really makes a difference. Its extremely cheap and you can do it yourself.

yes, if u could take a pic from underneath were the pipe picks up the air that would be great. I`m fitting an enclosed induction kit which reflects heat and keeps cool :-D so won`t need the heat sheild u have.

Costas, I have had a soft spot for these cars ever since I was a kid & my grandfather owned 3 of them. I wonder if that BiTurbo engine of yours would fit in this bay? There is a company in Bellevue (spelling?) Washington outside Seattle which has the rights to sell all BiTurbo-related Maserati parts in America, even the Ghibli-Cup stuff which never made it here. They also sell entire engines & gear-boxes with ECU & wiring-harness ready to transplant to other cars (with that exact intention). OMG, don't let me open this door! Even with the twin-turbos, I am sure the all-alloy Maser engine is lighter than the old Merc cast-iron lump.

Mmmm... a twin-turbo V8 where a straight-6 used to reside! :smt115

During the past 4 days we are testing Sh4rk under hard conditions to eliminate any problems before the Dony trip. Lots of discussions have been made about what has to be done before the Dony trip and also a lot of discussions have been made for amazing upgrades that will take place after the Dony. The only tip I can give now is that we are gonna take Sh4rk to the "next level"!!!. I dont want to talk about it before it is started-done because you may think I am crazy or full of BS...

During those past days testing, a big problem came up. After driving for many hours at 1.5 boost (350hp) and continously over 4500rpm, the water pump was RIP. I lost all water and only thing that saved me was air cooling, but when I stopped at toll station the temperature went to hell limits. Have to replace it and maybe upgrade it. Thank God I am "trained" to check all instruments more often than you can imagine and every failure is spotted before its too late.

Another problem that came up is that up to now, when the sun is up I can push the car at its limits without second thought or fear. But when I do so on a rainy weather or high humidity conditions, when I switch to 1.5 boost (I daily drive at 1.1) sometimes the engine refuses to perform at its best. It acts like there is a cutoff on the turbo. Greg has sorted all possible causes and tests one after another till he finds out whats wrong, yet no answer yet.

Things to do
1. Manage to remember to take and post pictures about extra hose for Monty
2. Manage to remember to take and post pictures and data about spark plugs fro Doc
Since Sh4rk is going to DSP tommorow will most certaintly do, and I apologize for havent done it allready.

Works to be done
1. Change the water pump
2. Fix the high humidity conditions problem
3. Repalce leather on seats or install MOMO seats
4. Calibrate and repaint wheels
5. Fix and paint front bumper (Taxi driver has damaged it 6 months ago)
6. Do final dynoruns
