Which new tyre for the front.

I discovered that I had a flat front left tyre thismorning. Very annoying.

Assuming that I have to replace the tyre, on both front wheels I imagine, what is the current recommendation?

Options appear to be...

1) Michelin Pilot EXALTO PE2
2) TOYO PROXES R888 - (sounds like a bad idea regarding wet driving)
3) Yokohama A022

I can't find any websites offering the Goodyear Eagle F1s (which I would prefer since they are on the front already), the Dunlop SP sport 9000s (which I'm running on the back) or the Toyo T1-S (which seems to have pretty decent reviews here). If anyone knows better and can point me to a place to get these that'd be great! Otherwise, any opinions on which of the above would be best?

How much tread did you have left, and what caused it?
Kwik Fit plugged one of mine from the inside when I had about 5mm left and got a screw through the middle (ooer missus). It's given me absolutely NO trouble since - in fact I can't even remember which tyre it was!

I have about 4mm tread left. I'm gonna try kwikfit tonight to see if they can repair it like that, but if not I should be prepared!

Glad to hear you've had no trouble after the repair... even under hard driving I assume. That'd be the best solution then.

Oooohhh, lucky me. I found a pair of brand-spanking-new F1s on Ebay for 130 quid. Sorted.

Just a note on tyre repare - it's only the flat centre section of the tread pattern that's repareable, anything outside of that, or on the side wall and the tyre has had it.

I had a new set of Toyos and had a thorn go through the side wall of one after less than 500 miles, and had to replace it - my fault for driving into the hedge I supose.

The R888s are a very bad idea. Yes, they're road legal, but essentially they're a track tyre.

there are specialists who will repair punctures on the wall in some circumstances, if you have one local its only a few quid, otherwise some garages send them away to be done, costs a bit more though.

I know some don't recommend this ........

Don't want to depress you, presuming you still have the stock wheels on your Elan, but I just got 4 brand new Goodyear Eagle F1s off mytyres.co.uk for my brother. He's getting them for a Honda Civic, but the spec was 195 50 15s for £129 all in, including delivery. can't see the 205s being much more.

Considering that Goodyear don't make the F1 205s anymore (and havn't for quite a while) I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were much more!

I check on mytyres.co.uk - thats where I got my dunlop sport 9ks - but they didn't have any
