the thingummyjig (Windscreen seals)

Postby TheBard » Thu 10.03.2005, 01:27

Can anyone tell me the part number for the little 90 degree piece of rubbery stuff that fits to the top corner of the windscreen glass? My car has one on the left (driver's side) but is missing one on the right, hence very wet leg syndrome for any passengers in rain storms.

The part that I do have looks like a small L shaped piece of rubber, is it that simple, has anyone fixed this using a tidy DIY method, or are the parts easily available?

All ideas greatfully received!!!

Ian

Cheers Sy,

As a single part code, is it reversible for either side of the window? I know it is a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask as I'm new to this "tinkering with the car" thing... too many years of VW!

Thanks,
Ian

Could someone please post a picture of the top right (or left) corner of their windscreen, or email it to me...

The reason being I ordered the part Sy suggested, and a piece of fairly rigid plastic has arrived, looking more like interior trim (picture soon) and I have no idea how the piece should fit, as it doesn't seem to belong anywhere.

The better of my two corners (other side is held together with gaffer tape) looks like this:
Image
Thanks in advance,
Ian

Sorry ian.

I assumed (wrongly) that you meant the outside "L" shaped trim...

No worries Sy. However, can you, or anyone, tell me two things (and supply pictures if possible, because trust me I'm not used to dealing with hardware, strictly a software person):

#1. which part goes on the windscreen, as shown in the picture above? ???

and...

#2. Where does the other bit go? [smiley=dontknow.gif]

Thanks Sy, you need to be charging for this kind of information...
[smiley=pleased.gif]
Thanks in advance,
Ian

Ian,

If i remember correctly, when dico had his windscreen replaced and we went down to christopher neils to pick the car up, they showed us the part that Lotus sent for those corner piece`s, which was just a piece of plastic which u had to cut the shape out with a craft knife so they just stuck the origanal corner piece back on with sikaflex???

It`s pissing down here but manage to get a pic
Image
Cheers for the photo Jay. [smiley=thumb.gif]

Proves what I thought all along, I'm missing that piece of rubber from both sides of the screen. I'll hit the manuals for the part #, but if anyone knows it already then please let me know...

And I bet if I got them glued in place with some suitable adhesive, it'd help with my wet speakers [smiley=yes.gif]
Thanks again
Ian
