First of all the desktop, the icons actually - how can i get the icons to be transparent where the icon title is instead of a colour block, thats the best i can describe it. Under each icon is the description of the program it represents and although readable it has a block of colour behind it. It used to be transparent so that you could see the desktop picture behind.

Second, with Internet explorer the web page name just comes up with one letter in the title bar. When you minimise the page the description in the task bar is the same one letter. The letter changes with the webpage thats loaded and is the first letter after the 'www' in the addess line. For example for www.lotuselancentral.com the title is 'L' - yes it does capitalise the letter regardless of case in the address line.

If anyone can help with these 2 little problems i would be eternally grateful.

1. Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.

2. Got the google tool bar? Try uninstalling it

well done liz removing the google tool bar has got ie back running properly. Still got the shadow under the icons though. i'll be bringing my laptop up to Donny with me so if you've got 5 mins to have a look

reloaded the system again so now problem solved
