£4,000 Re- Spray Paint Job in "Mirror Chrome Paint"

Postby johnbenk » Tue 14.03.2006, 01:32

Hi All.

I am having my Red Lotus Elan RE SPRAYED IN CHROME PAINT AS
PER ATTACHED :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D Only KIDDING:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D .

What I am having done is the hood cover fuel filler cap alloys and wing mirrors and as I have an NVQ level 2 in Vehicle and in paint spraying.

The purpose is for "SHOW" effect only as I have a set of spare mirrors
fuel cover and hood cover and the "original " will not be touched as it has won several Major Show awards.

Enclosed pickies of "Mock Up"   Must get a better camera

If you look at the smaller picture of the model the hood cover has a mirror finish, and in the other model picture I think it's the wheels have been done.

CHROME PAINT

Postby johnbenk » Tue 14.03.2006, 22:33

Hi All

Thanks for the reaction guys :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D I am with Monty
why bother? Seriously the wing mirrors might look good????? or the fuel filler cap. The hood cover would only show a small part with the hood "UP"

Fully down would show the full effect. I was going to do it as I am sick of the MX5 nutters who turn up at the car shows with the ALL THE BLING BLING EXTRAS and say "Look a bit bland" the ELAN TURBO when they come to The Lotus Stand. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D . It would p******them off as no one does any form of Interior BLING BLING for the Lotus

One prays it stays that way. "BLING" can stay in corsa's and saxo's, impressing spotty 19 year olds in McDonalds car park...

Be VERY careful - the last thing that you want to end up with is something like THIS!

That's not an insult to the current owner, who has since spent a lot of time and effort trying to return the poor tortured beast to it's original condition.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I was at Donington last year and saw this Elan in the flesh. A lot of people were very amused, and all for the wrong reason. You really don't want to go the same way or you'll lose a ton of money in depreciation and probably get laughed off the forum!

If the MX-5 bling bling idiots you mentioned can't comprehend that Elans of the same age are already modern classics, then that's their tough luck. They'll never "get it".
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

Car Shows Awards all our replies

Postby johnbenk » Wed 15.03.2006, 06:42

Hi.

This feed back is great. I am for keeping the originality of the car. But do enter for car shows throught the year. The car "actually" belongs to my eight year old grand son. I will be "dead and buried" by the time he is 26 years of age. He wants to be come a Vet and the "Lotus" is his reward only if he qualifies.

He comes with me to the shows and many parents come to the Lotus Stand and I try and get their children "interested in the Lotus Elan as they will be the future owners. As noted the car is a "future" Classic. BUT SO IS THE MX5. A lot of new buyers are the "younger end of the market and all have their own ideas on want they want as per "COSTAS" etc with Nitro (why bother as Monty would say) I like Montys car and all the rest who have added stripes. The reason being is that they have "taken the time and trouble to "personize" to each of their own ideas

Qustion? "Why do you need a hard top in a soft top car? Why does Honda make a Gt version of the S 2000 AND WHERE DO YOU STICK THE HARD TOP WHEN NOT IN USE.

I like the "Hard Top" and the white dials and engine detailing. How much hard much work has Sy, Monty, Costas and Lotus Marie Girl have THEY HAD TO DO to get this result. You all have my "admiration" because "YOU have done it" and are all "pround owners".

John, you do what you want to do mate, its your car, & whats important is it pleases you !, but if you ask for opiniums please expect us to be honest. I for one can fully appreciate you want to personalise your car. I find the standard interior quite drab. Probably went bit further with my car than originally expected, but had an idea in my head & went with it, now if you have the same sort of idea, you go for it, but youve always got the knowledge you can take them mx5's down the road & leave them standing. One thing i find amusing is when they look at the car they say, thats a nice old lotus, but when you leave them in your wake there speechless !
