E-Mail SPAM

Postby Sy V » Thu 23.03.2006, 20:48

Can any of the forum members put their hand on heart and claim to have been receiving an increase in sexual and pharmecutical spam to their e-mail address within the last 48 hrs or so?

No, I've had no more than normal. I still haven't received an offer for penis reduction (which is what I really need).

Ermm yeah thanks Jim...

The spam Sy is talking about is ones offering you all kinds of medicines, and generally the stuff that you cant get over the counter. And quite probably coming from Russian IP addresses.

The 'pornographic' emails are very explicit in wording, and often offer 'russian babes'

Jokes aside guys, replies to this mesage do need to remain serious, LEC has been getting a lot of attention from spammers as of late, and your responses to this affect changes we may be making to the forum software and site configuration to protect our members.

I've not noticed many more than usual (maybe 1 or 2 but that is it). I use outlook XP which filters most of them out anyhow

None at all. My Outlook rules move most of them straight out of my inbox into a seperate folder (as occasionally legitimate e-mails fall foul of the rules). I've checked and had nothing for three weeks.

No more than normal and as per others my combination of outlook and Norton dumps most of them into a seperate folder.

AOL are talking about 'deals' with corporate advertising companies, meaning that they can pay AOL per email, and AOL deliver it to your inbox around all spam filters etc! This goes the same for a few other providors too.

As a customer I would not be happy at all. This is why I have my own domain name, and my own mail server which I control completley in regards to what does and doesnt get to my inbox.

The problem with Spam on LEC is that site is designed to be as open as possible for Lotus Elan owners and enthusiasts, with the advent of spam some of those open doors are having to be slightly closed. We just want to be sure that those spamming the forum are not in turn spamming our members too.

Maybe Sy is just more sensitive than most.

I receive about one or two items of medical or financial offers per day which get deleted. Nothing too offensive, just don't particularly want the kids to access them. No increase in frequency recently.
