elans in japan

Postby rudedog » Tue 28.03.2006, 00:17

Nice to see elans in a country near by,
I was always wondering how a Japanese spec elans looked like, as I remember, the frontal area was like European model wile the rear end being like a U.S. version due to the registration plate.
From the images, it looks like they all look like U.S. elans from the back except for the black one.
With my kia elan with lotus rear registration plate holder Clemo had sent me,
I had to bend the plate slightly to fit it into the holder part. I see that the black model with European rear has the same problem…

Thank you for your investigation  :)

The steering wheel looks fine, too

@rudedog: I thought, you have selled your elan :( Hope this is not true. One question to your S2-Wheels. They have a different diameter with view to the hub/center hole. What have you used to adjust it ?

Best regards to all!

S2 wheels

Postby rudedog » Fri 31.03.2006, 11:57

Hello Don.Hasi, unfortunately, I did sell my elan. I had to get myself a car with 4 doors, seats. I already miss my elan
However, as for the S2 wheels, you don't have to change anything. Just take the OEM out and put the S2 wheels in.
they both have the same PCD, Off-set etc. just different size in overall diameter.

  Poor boy. Hope there will be once a situation, that you will able to take an Elan again.

Some said that the Kia has 56,1 and the wheels 56,6 cm diameter of the center hole. Should be wrong, shouldn´t it?

Thx for the informations and your continous helping

I suppose so.. since club members here don't make any modifications/ adjusting to use s2 wheels.

you have to know that kia elan has different wheel size in comparison to other kia cars, infact, elan is the only car in kia line up that has the same pcd as Daewoo cars in korea. I may be wrong, but as I know, lotus elan used the same brakes that were used on Dewoo/Pontiac Lemans 2.0 GTE, a re-badged Astra/kadett, thus the similarity in wheel spec.

OK :-) So I hope will see it, if I ever get some S2-Wheels :-D

For the brakes: If you are right, than they have put the ones of the lotus stock  That would mean, the gm parts would fit too Image

Great information! :-D I will get some gm parts next week, some stock lotus brake pads too. I´m curios if they will fit. That would offer many aftermarketoptions for us in europe :-D

I will report.

Thank you again, and I hope you stay with us a bit Image

Best regards :-)

Kia elan's wheel size maybe similar to that of a daewoo/GM cars, but the brakes are redesigned based on kia brakes.
so, what I mean is although the PCD may match Daewoo specs, the calipers etc. is from kia. Kia elan had a brake upgrade campaign back few years ago. I don't know which brakes you elan have, but if it was exported with up graded brakes, you can share brake parts with Kia Credos, which I believe is called kia Clarus.

This is just what I wanted to hear    beegee, Ron and elef are are trying so hard  They are just investigating what it is all about the big brake upgrade. At this time nobody can offer details. Brent/beegee has found a garage who made them, but they don´t tell any part numbers. kia germany doesn´t know anything like usual and so every europe elan does not get the upgrade!

A nightmare... :( :(
