Ok, i'll be the first to admit it.....

Search for Keywords:
You can use AND to define words which must be in the results, OR to define words which may be in the result and NOT to define words which should not be in the result. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches

What the hell does all that mean??? I've gone through it a couple of times but have to admit it absolutley baffles me

There aint much point in trying to explain it to me any further as i'll just get more confused (i'll just keep asking here )

Right, to the point. I'm looking for a write up by Clemof1 on his engine removal. I believe it was back in 2004 maybe early 2005. I remember it was an interesting read at the time, little did i know that i would be doing a similar operation on 'The Beast'
Any help in finding this write up would be most apreceiated

I would have thought that "engine" and Author = Clemof1 would find you what you want.

If it was 2 years ago might it have been lost in the forum migration?

Ok I will explain it, before I try to find the thread...

Search: Engine AND Removal
Result: All posts containing both words

Search: Engine OR Removal
Result: All posts that contain either word.

Search: Engine NOT Removal
Result: All posts containing the word Engine, where the word Removal is not present.

Search: "Engine Removal"
Result: all posts containing the exact phrase engine removal

Search: Engine AND Remov*
Result: all posts containing the word Engine and any word the starts with Remov (so would show results for remove and removal)

If it was 2 years ago it should be visible, very little was 'lost' in the forum move, however the indexing (what allows the search to work) of the older posts was imported from the old forum, which notoriously had a poor search feature.

Is it possible to rebuild the index? Might be worthwhile if it's not a massive effort?

When the import was done the software re-indexed as best it could from the data it had, combined with the imported index from the old forum. It's worth noting that the old forum didnt run from a database at all, but something like 40,000 text files.

All new posts since the new forum software are fully indexed and fully searchable.

When searching done forget to change the 'age' of the data your'e searching for. By default search only goes back something like 30days, you need to manually change the option in the drop down box.

According to my search under Clemof1 there are 292 comments by Clemo going back to 14 May 2003. A quick look revealed no engine write ups (did find his boot write up though!) but I may have missed it !!

Why not PM Clemo to see if he can remember anything ?? Or failing that, JohnW is usually very good at finding these little snippets. Cue JohnW.

PS Another thought - didn't Clemo sign on as Clemo before Clemof1 or am I just imagining that ??

are you sure about that bit? I don't see any time dropdown apart from the one which defaults to "all posts" with alternative time period options up to one year.
