I've received this 'heater control valve' in the post after ordering it using a part cross reference number recommended on this forum. It's a Jag XJS or Series 3 XJ6 - part number C41051A.
I had a quick look under the bonnet tonight and it certainly didn't look as though it would work. Anyone have any experiences with this? Or should I start again? I do recall someone cross referencing the original valve with a Volvo???
Again, any advice will be gratefully received.

don't know myself, but the valve looks the part; so as long as the pipe diameters are appropriate and the vavle opens with proper suction then it should work.

Interesting reading. All the symptoms mentioned I can relate to. Changed the valve over this morning. Part of the old valve end broke off and was left in the hose. Definately needed replacing. Valve works as it should, although I too was hoping for better heat from the internal heaters but it still doesn't seem to be great. It's better, but I do remember it being hotter.
What next is there to test/replace?
PS. Not sure if this is related but since changing the thermostat last week there have been times the car stalls when coming to a standstill. The revs just drop too low (400-500). Sometimes the engine realises and corrects itself (when there is no-one around looking at you) but other times it doesn't and the engine cuts out (right when there are a crowd of people looking at you.

I've read a bit about the IAC and the ECM and tried disconecting the battery for around a minute for a reset. It's still stalling on occasions.
