Hood tensioning

Postby mickmick » Thu 20.04.2006, 11:32

Hello again folks,

So, now i have a reasonable heat coming from the heater, i have new coolant in the engine and i have just fitted a new (to me) S2 hood onto my SE, but i have a question:

Is it possible to tension up the rear part of the hood as mine is just a tad baggy, causing the rear screen to be a bit wavy as it isnt tight enough .

There you go, answers on a postcard to the usuall address!!!

Oh yeah, and before i forget

Thank you to Mike Y for having the hood, meeting me at a reasonable place and selling it to me

now i have one, i just want to keep tinkering with it!!!!!!!

i think this is how it works, it sorted mine anyway.

the hood is tentioned by 2 cables that run across the tops of the windows. you'll see them come out at the back of the window and go into a screw clamp. this can be tightened.
arancio baby! thats italian for orange! i think?

Dont think i've been clear enough with my description

the front half is fine, its just the rear part with the screen in that isnt quite tight enough

hope the extra info helps

Is it seated on the rear deck OK? I think that there is a small amount of adjustment in how far the back half folds down onto the rear deck...

Just had another good look at the hood

the rear is down solid, and the tensioner webbing straps at the back are well tight, so i dont hink theres any room for adjustment

i guess its just a quirk you get with having a small converable sports car

Thanks for the replies

Is there any potential for lifting the hood slightly without the window seals missing the windows, and then adjusting the back?

Adjusting the tension of the hood wires above the door would pull the rear screen/back panel flatter. Be warned though, the adjustment nut is ver fragile, and the slightest attempt to turn it can rip the head off.

Now where did I leave my drill

Good luck,

to tighten hood up.

Postby johnbenk » Thu 20.04.2006, 16:14

Hi.

Daft as it may seems if you use "the hood ren-evate" stuff on sale at Moss, MG .Mx5. and TR spares or at "Frost" based in Rochdale.(www. frost.co.uk ) I think it called RENOVO this will "pull" the hood cover tighter.

You need a SUNNY DAY and apply as per instructions.

After application your Hood should like like new and to Happix material
will have tightened up.

Hope this helps.
