So...which type of gasket is best?

I have heard it both ways - and had both fail. Basically, I have only seen the stamped/sheet type, and the collapsable multi-layer type.



I was just wondering if anyone had a firm opinion one way or the other? I am putting my turbo back on, and I want it to be the last time until I decide to try a different model! Of course, then again I have heard some say the best gasket is NO gasket....Hmm....

Maybe it doesn't matter a lot, the failures I have had could be due to the nuts backing off; that has been a problem on all turbo-charged cars I have owned. This time however I have some Spira-lock fasteners I am going to try, so hopefully that is a thing of the past!

I don't use a gasket on my impulse RS, you could use some coppper gasket maker very thinkly to help it kind of seat up properly...

When I put the hybrid IHI/T3 on, I used no gaskets and the copper gasket goo. This was basically the stock setup. I had no leaks. When I replaced the bad gaskets in the last go around with the current T3, I did a stamped stainless gasket on both sides of the turbo spacer and they have been fine. http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/t3_inlet_gasket/ The copper gasket between the turbo and the downpipe/O2 housing has also been great with no leaks. If your surfaces are true, I'd probably go with the copper gasket goo. That way you have one less item to fail or have problems with.
