Mark, Glad your happy with K Broon. Next time mine is in I'll be asking him to give the turbo the once over. I've removed my BBR kit and its made no noticeable difference, so looking for Kenny to check turbo, timing etc.
Some people beat Rambo from A to B.

Scott,

Nice to meet a friendly, honest, enthusiastic owner and bunch of mechanics.

Incidentally, as my car has spent most of it's life up in the salty atmosphere of Aberdeen, the chassis needs some TLC. It's basically surface rust etc.. but when Kenny is quieter in December and the shite weather arrives I will take it over and get his guys to do the hard work wire brushing and Dinol/Waxoyl.

My turbo and wheel bearing problems were also down to salt and corrosion

I phoned Town & County, the Lotus Dealership in Aberdeen for an A service this morning. They want £295+VAT which they aren't getting. (Is that expensive?)

Tried Bob Duncan but they're busy and won't even take a booking!

Anyone got any other ideas?

Ben,
Ouch! That's expensive even for Town&County. I think they tend to make their money off company cars (Land Rover, Lotus, Lexus, Porsche, Subaru) and are a bit out to lunch on service pricing.

If you just need an oil & filter change why not pop over and I'll show you how to do it for next time.

John

A service is little more than an oil and filter change, fluid levels check and tyre kicking IIRC. Definitely a DIY proposition.

Ben,

You should be able to do it for yourself for about £50 - £60 (dependent on what oil you're putting in ?) I'd take up John W's offer and save yourself £300. All the bits (oil/filter/air filter if needed) can be got from your local Halfords I think ?

Mark

I sent an Email to town and county to voice my concerns at their over inflated prices. Seems they were quoting the rates for something called an "elise" ???

Anyway, turns out Town and County and losing/discarding their lotus dealership at the end of the year. Guess our new local dealership will be in Glasgow/Edinburgh.

The guy did say that there's a place in Blackburn where there's a guy that has taken most of their lotus work anyway. Just need to find out who - can't be that many places in Blackburn?

P.S. That's Blackburn in Aberdeenshire, not the one in the premiership!!

Recently took my Elan to Automotive services in Dunfermline who specialise in performance vehicles for Major service and Cambelt and was delighted with their service / pricing. (35 per hour) The owner and chief mechanic knows his way around elans.Would definately recommend.
I was at my friend's in Tomintoul over the w/e for the Highland Games.
He has an Elise and gets it serviced by Bob Duncan at Power Systems in Aberdeen (01224-774051) It's near Dyce airport. Maybe John W et al have heard of him or use him already ??
Rambo,
can you ask your friend if he has heard from Bob Duncan recently?

I've been trying to get him but it looks like he's shut up shop: his 'phone number gives the "unobtainable" tone, he doesn't answer his email, and when I drove round to his place, although the nameplate is still there all the cars have gone, it's shuttered up and there were no tyre tracks or footprints in week-old snow.

Last person to talk to him was WestonBen at the end of last year. He might have just gone on holiday, but that's not what it looked like.

John

Just had my Elan in at Kenny Brown's garage in Hillington.

He's very thorough and professional and his charges were hardly unreasonable.

Though the car's not finished yet (it's to return when the necessary parts arrive) it was driving quite beautifully when I got it back from him.

For anyone East coast ish I would recommend Mike Stewart O f Performance Engineering near Errol.
His number is 01821 642576.
Although the work I had done was on an Elite (he specialises in 907 and 912 engines) he had other cars in there and his rate was very reasonable as he doesn't have to pay VAT.
