Hi,

I just bought a J Reg SE Turbo from an auction site. It was written off but only had a small hole in the wing so it is repaired already. Otherwise it needs only some paint and some general TLC. A gamble I know but it was not expensive an offered the prospect of some fun.

I understand it is going to takes weeks to get the V5 through VOSA. In the meantime does anyone know if I can get some history or details elsewhere. Was the car ever registered with the LEC or other clubs. Any pointers will be appreciated,

Welcome.

If you post a few details there may well be some round here who know something of the car. You should also be able to get DVLA to give you details of past ownership and an HPI check might be helpful as well. What was the reason for the write off 'a small hole in the wing' does not sound like a good enough reason?

Thanks for the inputs.

The only detail I have is the registration, J231JCA. I don't even know the exact registration date other than it is 1991.

As for the reason for the write off, I don't know. The hole was about the size of the average fist and there are other scuffs so it needs TLC and paint. I bought it from the Norwich Union site through a friend.

For peace of mind and knowing exactly what you have got, it might be worth an inspection by a Lotus specialist or a friendly LECer in your area.

If you write to the DVLA, giving all relevant details ie reg no, vin no, they will send you ( for a small fee, think £2.70 ), a complete list of previous owners.

Don't forget the Freedom Of Information act.

If you ask, they might even tell you how many M100s are still registered.

If it was written off then there should be an engineers report and a estimate on the cost to repair for the insurance company to write it off. A hole in the wing isn`t enough to write the car off and i would want to see the repair bill.
