Has anyone replaced the seal which surrounds the entire door and ends(or starts) at the point where the hood seal meets the top rear of the door seals. My drivers door was is a bit tatty at the read top edge (where it goes underneath the hood seal) and I thought if I'm going to go to the trouble of buying/replacing the outer door seal, door speakers, etc. I may do this at the same time.
I know it's quite expensive so wouldn't want to buy one and make a mess of it. Has anyone changed this ?
I'm also thinking about going for the whole hood refurb, my rear window was done a few years ago but the passenger side seals are damaged, the front seal is damaged, and it may have the tinyest leak when soaked. Would trim tech do it at the same time ?
Any advice ?
Phil

Don't have any feedback on this one Phil, but am planning on doing the same job myself. Just had a respray done and they were shredded in the process of taking the doors apart etc.
Does anyone know the cheapest source of these parts? SJ are listing them for £93 (+VAT) each.
Also, what would be the adhesive used to bond them on with?

Hey guy's, the drivers one is not available at the moment, but the passenger one is. The best thing you can do is place an order with someone ( as i have ! ), as the more orders that lotus get, the more chance of them having some more made !

Well, like, the driver's side on my car is available, and the passenger isn't; cuz I can't even open that door! Of course, I guess that would be the opposite of what you need wouldn't it. Why can't we all just say Port or Starboard? One would think you didn't live on an island! Don't make me explain "colder than the balls on a brass monkey" to you! Oh well, I'm from a Navy town. Woke up all my life seeing the silhouette of 3 aircraft carriers in the distance.

Hector, you need to order one from a Lotus dealer, they will then order one from Lotus, who havn't got any, so they go on back order. When they get enough back orders, they will ( hopefully ) get another batch made !

Aircraft carriers?.. Don't you mean targets?! Damn surface ships get all the glory while us Submariners do all the hard work!

What are the Navy's height restrictions for being a submariner there Tommy?
BTW Kings Bay was just 2 counties away, so we were saturated in Navy... the Trident base, Mayport with a compliment of 33 ships, NAS Jax with all the sub-hunter aircraft, and Cecil Field which housed all the F-14 & FA-18 squadrons for the carriers.
King's Bay had the tightest security. The final (single) road down to the Tridents had a manned Abrams tank pointing its muzzle right at you!

That sounds about right. Anytime you've got nuclear ordinance people tend to get a little touchy. I had did some training at TriTraFac down there in K.Bay a few years back. I remember having to drive to Jax to find a decent club. As far height limitations on subs... there really isn't much of one. The tallest guy I ever served with was 6'6". I'm only 6' and it was pretty bad for me sometimes though. I was on fast attacks though not on a boomer (no part-time sailors here).

A few of the boomers no longer go boom. Instead of retiring a nearly new sub (due to honoring the nuclear limitation treaty) 2 or 3 of the Tridents at KB have been converted to "Special Operations" vehicles able to deploy SEAL teams even while remaining submerged. Now that is stealth deployment!
"Umm... we don't know why that blew up, we were never there." Hooah!

I've got a buddy on the USS Florida, one of the first boat to do the conversion. They are rebilling them as SSGN's instead of SSBN's. Guided missle subs instead of ballistic. 140+ Tomahawk Cruise missles and 2 SEAL teams on the quietest submersible platform on the planet. If that's not deterrance I don't know what is.

I think history has proven that nuclear weapons are the ultimate deterent. Although they have brought short-term peace (no WWIII) I fear one day the human race will pay the ultimate price, which may not be conducted by the countries with the most destructive capability.
In as far as your comment about protecting nuclear weapons, there used to be a closed airfield called "Whitehouse" which appeared on Jacksonville maps until I was in my early 20's. Now it is a blank-space on every map but if you drive down the old, unmarked and unkept-looking road you'll be greated by huge rolls of barbed-wire, humvees armed to the teeth & about 16 Marines with automatic rifles & light machine-guns. It is a place now known only to certain locals. Beyond that, it no longer officially exists.

Bringing this one back on topic...
Paul, Where abouts did you place your order for the door seal?
Spoke with SJ and the only way they can place the order with Lotus is if I pay for the part up front. Seems a bit tight when it could be months or years till the demand is high enough for Lotus to produce another run or door seals.

Matt, i placed order with GST Performance of Newmarket, never got asked to leave a deposit, should think its SJ's who want the money, cause if they place the order, they will ultimatly have to pay for it, if your long gone !

Do you have a number for them Paul, or do you think someone like South West Lotus Centre would be able to place the order with Lotus without asking for money up front?
