S2 Wheel Bolts vs SE Wheel Bolts - length and thread?

I have done a search without success, so don't expect to be flamed!

What is the spec of the S2 wheel bolts?

Presumably they are longer than the SE ones - but are they the same thread (12mm x 1.5 mm pitch)?

Also, is the chamfer angle / shoulder the same?

The reason I ask is that I have sourced a replacement / stud conversion for the SE and want to do the same for a set of S2 wheels (which I haven't got my hands on yet..)

As far as I remember Jim, they're identical bar the head (19mm for the SE bolts and 17mm for the S2) to accommodate the tighter inset in the front face of the S2 wheel.

But please wait for confirmation - it was a long time ago when I changed my bolts.

My S2 wheels still have the 19mm bolts fitted. Didn't know they should be 17mm until recently. I've now checked the taper angle and it is OK. I use a 'spider' style wrench which fits the wheel recess OK, not sure about the OE wrench tho'.

Thanks for that, I gt the S2 wheels last night and the existing bolts will work fine - using my non-OEM 19mm socket.

(Now, I will place my order for the stud replacement set.)

I got my 17mm bolts from PM.

I think Jim is talking about replacing bolts with studs & nuts? Might be an option for some.
BTW Current Nissan Micra bolts are almost the same (19mm) Hex length is slightly shorter and no, I don't own one!

Correct. I've found a source for replacement studs and nuts, but the details are on my 'work' computer. I'll be in the office Tuesday and I'll e-mail more details then. They were originally advertised on e-bay but I've been in direct contact with the supplier who has cut me a deal. I'll ask if he can extend it. He did indicate a group buy might yield some savings (especially on the postage!)

Once I got my hands on a set and proved them, I'll post more details

As discussed at the H&C I'm interested in studs to replace the bolts. I'll need to check lengths carefully though in order to clear my calipers I use 5mm spacers with my S2 wheels and therefore currently use bolts that are 10mm longer than standard (Hi Spec Hats seem to be thicker as well). My new wheels do not need the same length bolts and so I use bolts that are 5mm longer than standard. Careful measuring required I think!

I'd be interested in swapping to studs and nuts also, makes life so much easier when it comed to removing and refitting the wheels.

I took the liberty of doing some research on your behalf and came up with this elegant engineering solution which could save you a few bob, not to mention the hassle of sourcing bolts of the correct tensile strength.

I like the option of fitting studs but I'll need to be able to fit standard wheels (S2) as well as my track day wheels and dont want to have to change studs to do so as that defeats the purpose of converting to studs in the first place.

Challenge might be if the nuts are not open ended - assuming we can get long enough studs - the standard nuts are not open ended. Still if we can get long enough studs, we can always use different nuts. Watch this space.

Cheers Jim, another interesting discussion at the H&C beckons. Open ended nuts would certainly be one way, they do of course look c**p!

The issue is what is the minimum depth of thread that needs to be in the nut, more shouldn't be a problem provided the nut can still be torqued up to the wheel. Most dome nuts I've seen are quite deep so this may not be an issue.
