Since I haven't seen LGM around the site for a while, I will offer to give her a jingle (phone call ) for you guys about the bars if you like. I remember she was changing her shop's location, etc, so I bet she is busy with other things.

May be easier to find a bar that made it across the Atlantic but is not fitted yet, and get it to make copies !! Of course it would be nice to have LGM approval for it but me thinks she would be okay with that for LECers !!

Doug, I may have an interest in an LGM rollbar. I've seen her work and, with the plexi wind break she mounted between the "humps" it really looks great. Getting it chromed would look fantastic. Please let me know if you manage to reach her. Thanks!

She didn't just change her shop's location she sold it all together... she's no longer working on car for a living. I've been trading emails with her for a while and I'm pretty sure that she'll be going with us for at least one of the wine trips this summer.

My thoughts on a roll-bar is to use it as a seat extension. Imagine a D stretched horizontally. The flat piece would come out just in front of the seat, a 90deg bend behind the seat and the curved bit above your head. Then two horizontal pieces between the two D pieces. However this would probably raise the seat a fair bit. Also you probably would want it done in Chomoly steel to help save weight.

Someone like Safety Devices may be interested in making roll bars assuming there was enough sets, there cage I used in my Manta was great and didn't cost the earth either.

Mind you, after having a side-on in a Galant Estate, I dont bear to think what it may have been like in an Elan. And if she missed a great large white estate car, she probably would have missed a smaller red one!!

I for one would be willing to get a set made, possibly two.

Caged, of Westbury, Wilts, http://www.therollcagepeople.com/ made a roll-over bar for the M100 about 2 years ago. The design should still be on their system. One off cost was about £750 fitted.

This is intersting news, because Safety Devices wanted £2500 to design one.

The backbone chassis lotus cars have always demanded a unique approach to roll-over bar design. The M100 seems to be no different in this respect. I believe that the Caged bar has been designed with competition/track day use in mind. It may not suit those for whom cosmetic appeal is all important.

Mike welcome to LEC, see you at Castle Combe (I'm in a green S2) as per my avatar, are you running an M100?

I have LGMs hoops fitted to my car, they clearly offer a lot less protection than a fully approved cage and the experience of a few here tells us that the windscreen pillars do not provide the level of roll over protection claimed. I'm happy enough with the hoops for road and occasional track day use, anything more serious would require a different solution.

Sorry to come across as Mr Pessimistic but........
It's long been my belief that circuit track days have the potential to be more lethal than the average sprint/hillclimb - particularly at high speed venues such as Castle Combe. Those that enter these events in an open car without roll-over protection could be asking for trouble - IMHO.
My Elan has no ROB so I'm just spectating at 'Combe. Having said that I am booked for a track day at Prescott on the day after.

Not pessimistic just realistic! I did Castle Combe last year and fitted the LGM hoops largely with this in mind but also as a sensible thing even just for road use. For me track days are an issue of acceptable risk, I enjoy driving quickly and it is both illegal and irresponsible to do so on the public road . Track days offer the opportunity to do what I enjoy (if I had the time and the money I would compete properly) it's up to me to manage the risk when on the track by driving within the car's and more importantly my limits, the mentality is thus very different from racing although I'm as competitively minded as anyone in the right circumstances! Look forward to meeting you at Castle Combe you've already added to our collective knowledge, I (and Sy by the looks of it) was unaware of the Caged bar for the Elan and I will check it out in due course.

Saw nchase and his elan today at the hop farm in paddock wood. Must say it looked brilliant and he had one of the roll bars supplied by Marie and made me decide that i could do with one as well.

Any updates on the rollbar front?

She does visit LEC very occasionly, see if you can PM her and maybe (joint?) purchase the jig she had made up, and import it to the UK?

Ok, i have found a place near reading who specialises in roll cages and they feel they should be able to help.

At this point they haven`t advised a price yet as they haven`t done one before.

So my questions are:

1. Who else would be interested, if i can advise them of more possible orders i`m sure they would consider a cheaper price

2. Does anyone have any pictures or specification of the ones that have been previously fitted?
