Lotus Elan Central

Hi,

I am looking for S2 rims as the original S2 rims were replaced by the previous owner. Currently, odd looking 16" rims are fitted to this S2. I believe these rims are not original equipment specs. What can I do!?

What other 16" rims options are out there for M100 S2? What do I need to tell my local rim/wheel shops? Are federal spec 16" rims identical to S2 rims ? I am in Taiwan.

Please adivse.

the s2 rims are the bbs rims and standard for the s2.....the federals are 16" OZ versions of the 15" OZ SE wheels...the only difference apart from being 16" instead of 15" is that the 'spokes' are perpendicular to the rim rather than at an angle.....
and perpendicular is not easy to spell at 2 in the morning after eleventeen beers!!!

The original spec is 16" 4x100mm PCD and 60 offset. - you won't find any aftermarket ones.

There seem to be a lot of people after aftermarket wheels, and people looking for S2 wheels for SEs.

Is there any value in trying to find a manufacturer that could produce some to-spec 16" or maybe 17" :twisted:

alloys and maybe sweet talking Brian or other creative bods into coming up with a design that's similar to the standard but with that extra bit of magic?

If they were to come in cheaper than a new set of S2s then I'd be up for a set (bye bye overdraft!).

Hi,

As I could not find a set of S2 rims, and a set of "not correct offset" rims are installed. Should I adpot those SE's 15" rims instead? At least I will have the correct offset, +60. What do you think?

you could always go for the 16" fed spec wheels, SW Lotus was selling these at Donny/stoneleigh for £500 with tyres

Already got a set of aftermarket 17" wheels, but they are on a 40 / 45mm offset rather than the desirable 65mm. The current setup does appear to give a fair amount of unrest in the steering. Also, and I'm not too sure which component it is (worn tyres, worn bushes, wheel size / offset, damper settings etc), but I'm convinced the handling is not what it used to be.

Therefore, I would be up for exploring the possibilites of an aftermarket bespoke wheel. Don't know of any contacts, but I can ask around. The key is going to be getting them engineered with the optimum offset. I think an update on the visual aesthetics is in order also... Don't you?

Anyone else any contacts or wheel engineering know-how?

I'm taking my car to Rimstocks later this week as both sets they have
supplied for the Elan M100 have fouled the calipers. They intend to make
a template to find the clearance required. I don't hold out a lot of hope,
but if anything promising turns up I'll let you know

Are they 16" or 17" and do you have the Wilwoods (or other bigger brakes fitted)?

They are 16" as I didn't want to spoil the ride. The idea was to fit bigger wheels,new tyres, then bigger brakes,new exhaust, then more power .
Somewhere along the way I need to make time to enjoy it !!

Hi everyone,
How wrong could I be !
Having had my exhaust fitted in the morning, and being delaid by weather and traffic, I arrived quite late at Rimstocks. Adrian Clough their Chief Design Engineer made me feel welcome and was genuinely interested in sorting out a fitment for the Elan. Although they are making Wheels for Lotus (including the new Exige) they have no technical drawings on our car and have not been able to obtain them from Lotus. He produced some Vauxhall / Opel hub and caliper drawings and proceeded to make a paper template, with which he would update their data base (and web site I hope). It is certain that they will be able to machine 16" Wheels with a +50mm offset (yes I know it should be 60mm) with sufficient clearance.
In my case I am going for the Monza R multi spoke design in high power silver, but there are other choices.

Adrian says he has had several calls from their dealer in California about wheels for the Elan. This should now enable him to deal more effectivly with these and any other enquiries.
I then completed my return journey home, a total distance of 475 miles and the old girl didn't miss a beat, despite the weather and traffic.

Sounds good, will they also machine the the hub centre which IIRC is 56.6mm? as most aftermarket wheels u have to nuy hub rings.

They will come with the insert to adapt to 56.6mm
