Booster rattle

Postby Kenneth » Tue 27.06.2006, 23:42

Hi I am looking for help; when I accelerate enough for the turbo charger to cut in, there is a light rattle when I change gear, if there is no boost showing on the dial there is no rattle, what are the possible causes of this? Thank you

sounds like normal turbo stall from the changing of the gears

I'd call it a stuttering or chattering sound and it eminates from the front left fender area--this is where the sound/pressure wave exits the end of the intake system

It is not good for the life-span of the turbo. For this reason dump-valves are used in all modern turbo diesel cars. In stead of the rattle you will get another sound, unless one implements a closed loop dump-valve. Additionally the turbo spins up a bit faster after a gear change.
