Drunk driver in Clio (who, while we were waiting for the Police to arrive, confided in me that he'd been drinking and asked me to "get him out of this"!).

If you look at the third picture and the marks on the road; that's where the Landrover was parked. So he shunted it about 8 yds!
Note the absolute lack of skid marks - he never got round to taking any avoidance actions at all.
I bet (hope) that hurt!

well, the advantage to being drunk is that you don't get hurt as bad -- good thing he was driving a modern car -- look at all that force that was dissipated in the front of the car! Cudos to Renault!

As for the rural setting; we're right on the edge of the Bromsgrove conurbation - two houses further along and it's pretty much green until you reach the southern suburbs of Birmingham, and the fields at the rear of the house are ours, of course.

I hope the police are being good about it, and are not charging you with anything. A few years ago a car of mine was written off by a drunk while it was parked outside my parents house (like your Land Rover, it was at the kerb, under a street light, facing the correct way). The drunk drove off, but we found him. When the police finally came, they charged and fined me on three counts of a) parking without rear sidelights b) parking without front sidelights and c) parking without the number plate illuminated. I couldn't believe it. It has left me with an extremely jaundiced view of the police.

Knew someone who worked in forensic science labs and one test they performed was to see if the glass envelope of lights were coated in tungsten - if they were, the light was on when broken and if not, they weren't. Presumably, if you've got any broken lights, you'll replace them asap.

Anyway, good to see no innocents were injured.

This happened to me many years ago, the pub car park was only 100 yds up the road and hit my parked car with such force he snapped his gear stick and my car eneded up 100 yds down the road. Never got the b*st*rd for it and lost the car as i was only 3rd party

at some point the "charged" looked like he had hit his nose on the dashboard, however no blood was found in his car !! as simon had kindly wiped it off with the back of his fist...

Had the assessor round yesterday, while I was at work.
Left him the keys and my original purchase receipt (dated Nov 05) on the seat.
Got a phonecall from him yesterday while driving home.
He stated that:
a. The repairs are beyond financial worth.
b. I paid £1350 for her last year.
c. Being as it's a '78, it can't have depreciated significantly in 7 months.
d. He was making her a Cat C write-off.
e. His offer to me was £1350.
f. Buy back figure £108.
I will get a cheque for £1242, and a Landie to strip for spares - result.
Already agreed to sell her for £108 (to a very good mate and fellow Series 3 owner) and I can have all the V&A items to sell on eBay (electrically thermostated radiator, overdrive, gunrack/dog guard, tilt fabric and tilt bars.
