sorry my brother has the elise. all in all experience and time seved lotus owner.

So you shouldn't need any convincing then i.e the Elise has many components that would/should have contributed to a stress/cost limiting ownership experiance, if only Lotus had 'paid the extra' when selecting their orginal supplier.

I remember very well test driving an Elise on a warm summers day, the car simply would not select it's gear correctly, this aparently was caused by an extra stretchy clutch cylinder hose (rubber hose that is). Which was later replaced by a braided version, the cost of which was most likely less than £10 or so pounds more than the orginal offering. The cost to Lotus and owners outside of warrently being around £100+ .

To which I rest my case.

what should be considered is that if one goes do you want to risk it with the others. ok the whole set of Samcos is a smidge over 200 if you get the s/s clips but think of the aggro breaking down with water pi88ing out in a traffic jam on the M6.

My advice is take a look at the hoses where the clips are and see if they show signs of hardening or cracking that will give some idea of their general condition. But my advice is on a 15 year old car - change the lot and have peace of mind.

Samco hoses at £200 they have to be a cheap insurance, how much for an engine rebuild ? has anyone done a costing for a full hose package from Lotus?

The Samco hoses are just over £160, u won`t get the clips with the stock hoses. We did the group buy for different reasons,

there cheaper than the lotus RRP pice
better material
and a replacement for when there are no more stock hoses.

Lotus would of got the stock hoses for pennys from the manufacture and make a 80% mark up on selling them.

eg lotus ask £50 for a cambelt, the same belt Isuzu the USA can get for £10 to £15 of the shelf so imagine what Lotus got them for

The Samco hose are made of a better material, go have a look at the website and stop being an Ass!

So what u going to do once the Lotus ones run out? tell u what should we give u`r name to Samco so can never get a set.

Mr Jay Thomas, initially you asked for help & advice , presumingly because you thought we knew more about this than you, & could advise you of the best way forward ?. Now Monty offered to send you a spare hose he had free of charge, which was very kind as he don't even know you !, but no, you couldn't even be bothered to answer him !. Whether you agree with us or not is irrelevent, the fact is, reading through this thread, it is quite obvious to me, that you didn't want our help or advice, so i can only presume you started it to do some stirring or upset someone ?. This forum is to help genuine people, that genuinely want help, & it appears your not one of them, so i for one won't be answering any other posts you make.

The only reason people are being harsh was the stupid statements u were comming out with, No body is saying go out and buy Samco if u just need to to replace one hose and since u`ve replaced most of u`r hoses u`r good for 10 to 15 years.

I`m sure Samco will sell individual hoses, or at least to people who bought there kit.

Don`t kid u`r self about Lotus knows best as they never galvinised the chassis etc, crap brakes. badly design seals. At the end of the day it all came down on where they can save money and more parts are comming obsolete and hopefully with this LEC we can keep our cars on the road.

I got my hose for £6 and they gave me two for that price.... not sure what to read into that!!! So if anyone else is in urgent need, I got a spare in the tool box.

Would love to go for the Samco, but i had to raid the pennies jar to get the 6 quid together so that will be another day......

If you need a new tyre Dan, give Cabot Tyre Services (0117 9710396) a ring in Bristol. They are a supplier to a lot of local tyre fitters and I have never found a better price. Oh, and you don't have to go there, just get a price match from a local company
