Hi All,
Just taken my Car to my dads mechanic, as there is a rattling noise at 4000 revs, I thought it would be the exhaust or engine mounts. My dads mechanic seams to think it is the turbo, I have had turbo cars before and usually there would be smoke or a whining noise, when they go.
You can make the noise from standstill revving to 4000 + then it disappears over 4500.
Do you think I should get a Second opinion?
There is no smoke coming from the exhaust.
Regards
P

My first guess is that it is not the turbo. I would think the rattling would be at more than a small rev range if the turbo was the culprit, but maybe not. Has someone stood by the engine while it was revved to try to see specifically where the sound is coming from?
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Or the exhaust mount under the engine has broken (they often go). I've had an annoying 4000rpm rattle from that source.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to sit on your arse with a blank look on your face.
