I'm confused...apparently the chassis underneath the grey Esprit is new? :smt017 I do like the yellow car which appears to be the true concept. Does have a bit of M250 in it along with a LOT of Lambo.

367 HP, huh? If it goes on a major diet from the last car (which it sounds like it has with an all aluminium chassis) it might be a bit tricky keeping up with on track, unlike its older brother.
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

that's what my M250 was going to look like -- I don't want to even get any ideas or they will certainly kill the project. If they make them and they are priced right (and assuming there is a US dealer left in business by then) I will highly consider it, but I think a Modena Spyder or Gallardo Spyder is more my style--I like going topless!

Wow, definitely an Elise & Gallardo.

I like it, very cool...but stealing styling cues is for Korean manufacturers so I am torn!

"These photos include a computer-drawn artist's impression of how the new Esprit might look upon its release."

The yellow thing up there is the fake... the true concept vehicle is the grey esprit. If the latest cars coming out of Hethel are anything to go by expect it to be a little bit (probably a lot) proton looking.

Looks fabulous. Even more reasons to be in love with Lotus all over again! You' think they could put a retractable hard top on it if they really wanted. Probably won't though if they stay true to the old Esprit heritage.

to say it looks like the Gallardo is WRONG ...
the Gallardo looks like an evo of the ESPRIT...
to the point that lotus were going to sue...

i would love an esprit..
they are a fine car .. from any decade...

I emailed Lotus my choice for the M250 name which was "Enigma" -- they could use it for the new Esprit too. No one else has ever used it . . .

Reminds me of a motoring journalist's theory of a few years ago about why Vauxhall stopped the "V" model naming convention (Victor, Velox, Viva, Ventora, etc.).

He reckoned they were running out of words beginning with V and only had names for womens' naughty bits left. Now that would have been an interesting advertising campaign.

According to an industry insider, the cost to research and protect a new model name is substantial, hence the trend for alphanumeric coding. Probably something Lotus have to think seriously about with their limited funding?

Quote from Mike Kimberley, CEO at lotus:

"It's obviously a great looking car, but it is not the replacement Esprit currently under development at Hethel and testing globally. It is actually nothing to do with Lotus."
