Hoping you can shed some light on a problem - Just got my first Elan (SE turbo series 1) - When I got it the previous owner hadn't used it in a while, has ran fine for a week, but when I bought the car it had a crack in the coolant expansion tank (where the top pipe goes down to the thermostat.. wasn't leaking at the time so didn't replace striaght away.. (big mistake and should have known better
Anyway - took for a very 'spirited' drive
and when I got back and popped the hood to have a good look around and give it a good check over as the car was cooling down - pipe finally gave way - coolant everywhere - including all over the coilpacks.. Have replaced the expansion tank and have had a pretty good go at drying the coil out with water dispersant and a cloth etc - but still missfires but only as the car is coming on boost - am I likely to have damaged the coil, or is there still water lurking somewhere - or any other common probs?
Going on hols tommorrow so have to sort this whole mess out when I get back
i) Remove the coilpack, electrical connectors and plugs and leads - completely dry - see if that solves the problem..
ii) If not replace plugs and leads,
iii) if not replace coilpack and check headgasket
iv) if still no joy check injectors (though im 99% positive its an ignition system misfire)
OR
am I missing something obvious?
