Help with New Tyres!

I'm currently running Yoko A520's which for outright grip have been the best tyres I've ever had on the Elan, no squeel whatsoever that I used to get with the Michelins. However the ride quality is poor particularly since fitting new S2 dampers and springs on my SE with standard 15" wheels.

The Yoko's also appear to be compounded from something not much harder than soap and have worn down in less than 6k!!! despite rotation! Fewer tyre pitstops would be welcomed

I think the Yoko A520 (no longer in production) was a heavy tyre and may be responsible for the poor ride over rough roads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I put yokohama c-drives on my elan.......excellent
the best of everything......done 8k on them and they hardly look used at all......still load left before I get to the tread markers....
good in the dry, wet and snow......quiet on the road...........

well I like em and at £160 for a full set I definately wasnt arguing as they were £30 a tyre cheaper than I'd found the same tyre anywhere else!!!!
( I was quoted £70 per tyre until I went to my local dealer who said he could do them for £42 each....I bit his hand off and then when I turned up with cash he said ...'ah call it £160'.....bonus)

Thanks Elanman, I looked the C drives up eagerly but unfortunately Yoko don't support 205 R15 Dam! They sounded perfect

Be careful of MyTyres prices, they seem good, unless you want the fitting service, at which point it got far too complicated for my already taxed brain.

I get my tyres now from BlackCircles.com (or co.uk?) there they quote an all in-price, inc. fitting, balancing, valves, and old tyre disposal (all of these are the MyTyres extras).

I think in the end the price works out fairly similar and the two sites use the same local tyre fitter to me - I just find BlackCircles more straightforward.

Is the T1-R the one with the reinforced sidewall? If so I've heard mixed reports about how well it works on the Elan. From memory the tramlining was a problem. The T1-S, however, is universally well regarded

yep the t1-r is the reinforced side wall........
as for my tyres and black circles Ive never actually used either....the guy who does mine is local and seems to undercut everyone by at least £15 per tyre minimum every time........
I dont know how he does it but it doeant matter what it is of how many you want its with him in 3or 4 hours.......
I know its no use to anyone else but he always does me a very good deal indeed

I am getting 4 T1-Rs fitted on Thursday. Give me a week or two to allow them to bed in and I will post my conclusions.

I have 4 of these fitted to my Accord and I think they are really good, hence the fitting on the Elan.

I have T1-Rs and am happy with them but am not thrashing it to the edge nor have I driven in the wet since these were fitted.
I'll be interested to hear further reports.

Anything to report back about the T1-Rs yet? I'm also looking to replace my two front tyres and the T1-Rs look very attractive in price (much cheaper than the Michelin Pilot Exaltos) and test results, however I guess you can't beat true user experience with the Elan for a good indication of how they will feel on my car... and I'd say so far the reviews haven't been great on this site.

By the way, has anyone else had any bad experiences with mixing two different types of tyres (one sort on each axle)? I currently have new Michelin Pilot Exaltos on the rear.

It is not something I would recommend, but see how it drives, you could swap front to back if you disliked the way the car felt first time out
