Correct, under the contract with the Dept of Transport, any private plate can be revoked if any of the terms of use are breached, one of which is the size and spacing of the letters on the plate.

Tony, the one u have at the mo u will get away with as the automatic number plate recognition can still read it, it`s the smaller lettering and fancy plates there clamping down on. It maybe worth having the sticker version (wouldn`t mind one myself

) as it sounds like u`r getting it as a freebee and if u get caught just remove and put it down to experience.

Had a cop point at my 3/4 plate today

Luckily he was going in the opposite direction and could'nt spin round easily. Only a matter of time though
Just so long as I can't get points.

well, hence the reason you need the plate -- without it they wouldn't know what car you are and you could just flip them the bird and speed by
you've been forced into getting caught and fined and upset -- unless you get some robot car that refuses to go faster than the posted limit . . .

Dear Tony:
The car looks great. Congrats!
Concerning the license plate-Have you considered using a piece of string? That is how I addressed my front license plate issues on my 1971 (no place to fit a front plate on that car). I fit the string between the top two mounting holes and then put the whole thing behind my passenger seat. When the cops pull me over, I reach behind the seat, grab the plate and throw the rope over my head so that the license plate is sitting on my chest a few inches down from my chin.
The cops with a sense of humor bust out laughing and let me go. Those without a sense of humor immediately call in a request for a full body cavity search (and I am not talking about the body on my 1971 either).
Sincerely,
Algirdas

Ouch... I hope more of the police out there have a sense of humour!
