Generaly Help needed... Softtop, Stowage, Trunk....

Postby Don.Hasi » Sun 27.08.2006, 11:38

Hello totgehter,

a have several problems like usually if I think, ok, its only a job of half an hour

So, I know from the start, that my car must have had an accident at the back although the fcuking seller didn´t mentioned it  But all items under the surface dide mak a good impression... rattles in the steering and other thingies just discovering in the nearer past Image

Ok, all my faults...

So please help me to decide, wether Ina II must go to the scrap dealer  or I can rescue her Image

As I stated in former times... don´t repair what is not in pieces Image the softtop haven´t fit properly... I have driven all the winter long with it but now it seems to leek more... so I thougt do to the easy job...

You have linked several times to the sefvice notes with 2 M12 100 and 1 M12 80mm bolts. Theses bolts doesn´t fit, although the same dimensions are called in the kia service notes  or I dont´t know where to mount them  But anyway, just in case I would know which ones and where... I wouldn´t get the method to adjust...

which bolts do I have to unbolt for adjusting the construction? Please, I have read any comment to this topic, but I don´t understand it... Is there an opportunity to get an instruction for beginners, for stonecutters under us to cut it in the meantime? Image

Does the softtop have to lie on the frame without pressure? Mine stands to much in the air in the front and too much on the stowage....

Image
Image

Then, its not all, the stowagelid has to much pressure too :( If you open the lid it snaps proper of, but you need power to close it again, cause the hinges have in myview no the right angles... But to make it complete, the hinges are destroying the stowagecabin  I want to adjust them too, but there are no opportunities I have seen... could the hinges only be twisted?

Image

For reaching them I have demounted the trunklid, for noticing damages on the trunklid by remounting it before by any idiots who think a bolt must be closed until it reaches the surface on the other side  :smt070  ... but I can´t get open the counter bearing (the thing for being sure, that trunk and stowage are not open to the same time)

Could you HELP ?

Thanks for any advices in advance

:-) THX for answering.

No I haven´t tried it... Shouldn´t the coverplate in that case comes to far to the cockpit? I think the ending to the B-pillar is just fine. And the greatest problem, I can´t get the hinges out there... I have tried it, but the counterpin in the trunk was not to convince to get off

Do you have any shims there?

I know that shims are a valuable Lotus-solution  so, it would be a possible way with sticking the principles of the car Image

Do you have the gap of the softtop on the frontframe too?

And do you ever have trimmed the seals in the right position?

Had a similar proble mith the soft top hood on My Elan when I bought it.

You need to remove the hinges for the hood cover an shim the top of the bracket. It is not easy to do, you need to manipulate the hinges to release them from the counterpin on the boot hinges.

As for the soft top there are good instructions in the workshop manual, however I am sure it was m10 bolts I used to adjust the soft top ans not the m12's refered to in the manual

Hi Andy,

very interesting... I have used M8 bolts  But I don´t understand the sense of this adjusting... There are 2 90mmlong bolts who keep the Softtop in the box of the b-Pillar, right on the subframe... with the m8 or in your case m10 bolts one can adjust the position in all 3Dimensions but you can fasten the 90er bolts then again Image

so, what is it about? Adjust to say: hey, in this way should it be, but i have to lock them in the old way, cause there is no space to move AND lock them.. Image

Or is there a special trick?

With view to the hinges... I have feared for those words Image

ok, then will i have a look for right fitting shims...

THX
