Just wondering if anyone has a throttle position sensor or complete throttle body they could lend me for the postage. My ongoing running problem (2 years now) has not been resolved and the TPS is one of the last suspects. Lotus want £200 + vat for the sensor alone so i thought i`d put the word out to see if some kind soul had one they could lend me to try first. I`m in Maidstone, Kent & would return it quickly, or possibly buy it if you want to sell. Thanks for reading....

Hi Oliver,
I've got my engine stripped down at the moment fixing a 'piston problem'. I could remove the sensor, and would be happy to lend it to you on a short loan. My car is a 91 SE.

Thanks for your kind offer Paul, piston problems eh, i won`t feel so sorry for myself now! Got my thermostat housing and distributor in bits at the moment, (yes it`s a non turbo), so i probably won`t need the TPS very soon and as it has to be calibrated when you remove/replace it i was really thinking of borrowing one from someone`s spares stash as opposed to butchering their own car. Thanks anyhow and good luck with the engine rebuild!

For the calibration its just a matter of measuring the voltage across a couple of the leads so you can do it with a multimeter. It doesn't take very long at all. didn't know if you were aware of it so thought i'd add it in

You might want to try and get hold of an ElanScan interface if you've got long term problems (I'm not selling them now so I can say it). It works ok on NA.

I`ve known this would be of great benefit for ages! Got my old laptop and Elanscan program ready + engine management manual, just no bloody cable :cry:

Got a mate of mine making one for me but i dont like to rush him. I am fairly sure if i had elanscan working i`d solve it quickly.

Changed:
Plugs
HT leads
Cap + arm
pick up coil
ignition coil
ignitor
CTS (+just fitted another)
Fuel filter (loads) (yes it`s the right way round.)
Air filter (loads)
IAC valve

checked timing, cleaned earths, relays, connectors, EGR valve, pipes for air leaks, splits (cant find any)

Bitch to start, poor pick up till hot, and wont rev, symptoms gradually diminish with miles / heat, by the time i get to Goodwood its going like a rocket, hot starts ok, next morning won`t start again!!!!!

I think now it`s either:
TPS
Throttle body
weird air leak (unable to find)
clogged / knackered injectors
fuel pump

I`ll write a book about it one day.

Oh yes, just bought a temp guage sender from Lotus, it over reads big time. Now guage shows 3/4 all the time instead of 1/4. When i reported this as faulty they said it`s now discontinued anyway. So dont break yours!

Ratman is having troubles which I think may be TPS related. When he gives it welly, there appears to be a lack of power compared to a more gentle pressure on the accelerator. His ElanScan runs show that the TPS frequently starts to rise but then falls back and only occasionally hits 4V=100%.

As I'd got a bunch of ElanScan interfaces to check out, I thought I'd see how easy it is to check out the TPS. Procedure : Ignition on (but don't start the engine) set ElanScan logging then gradually press and release the throttle. I got the attached response - I think its fair to say my TPS is OK although I do only hit 97% fully depressed. I would expect a faulty TPS to give a noisy signal or not reach full output.

If anyone is after an interface, I currently have a few spare.

Have you tried moving it round a bit or tightening the cable? A 3% power increase for free sounds like good value to me!

I am going to fiddle with my TPS again. When i have my ElanScan cable i should be able to adjust it properly. Anyone had a problem with the fuel pressure regulator ? I`m wondering if it has anything to do with my crap starting / running / over fuelling problem ?

I recently got my new TPS delivered after many moon of TPS blues. Still brand new never tried it yet. Turned out not the TPS itself in my case.

Thanks for your kind offer, I`ll hopefully have ElanScan up and working before the weekend so i may be able to confirm if mine is suspect.
