I now have 5 serial interfaces for sale at £15+P&P. They are as described previously in the What is Elanscan???????????? thread i.e. red bodied. I will make up an ALDL plug and lead of your choice of colour (multi-coloured ribbon cable or three core cable with black or white outer sheath) and length (~3m maximum).

As demand currently exceeds supply, I have been through all requests I can find and the official list (based on date requested) elsewhere:

Unfortunately, my shingles have flared up again so I'm probably not going to be able to manufacture another batch for a couple of weeks. I think it only fair to let the first five go to the first five names on the list, however:

a) It is a serial / RS232 / 9 pin D type interface; some newer laptops do not have these connectors and I plan to produce USB interfaces as soon as possible - they will however be slightly more expensive.

b) Some people may have an urgent need and I will be sympathetic to any such requests.

c) For the next batch black, blue, yellow, grey and ivory covers will be available at no extra cost - brown and green ones are available but cost an extra 10p! You may wish to wait and colour coordinate with your car.

d) You will be connecting a car and a computer together; the former produces horrendous electrical noise and the latter is very susceptible to electrical noise. Given that I only put together the ElanScan Interfaces for you as a hobby, they are not manufactured to any formal specification and will probably result in the catestrophic failure of both car and pc. I offer no guarantee and accept no liabilty for any loss.... blah blah blah. If you do not accept this disclaimer then do not buy or use the interface.

Could you please consider these points and then confirm or otherwise by e-mail. I will try to keep the list updated.

Sorry about the delay in getting these out and thanks for your patience.

I should point out that my price is a lot less than commercial equivalents as it covers the cost of materials but not my time which I give willingly (although rather slowly)! One request I would make is to check out this thread and maybe make a contribution. Thanks.

I do have some running problems with my car at the moment and so would be keen to try out ElanScan to see if I can diagnose the problem.

Ratman, your interface was sent this afternoon.

Alan, I plugged yours in to check it out on the car and I couldn't get comms, so I haven't sent it yet. The good news is that it looks like the laptop serial port had hung up, so I will do a confirmatory check and send it on tomorrow.

I have the last three fully built up now so, unless there are any last minute cries for help, I'll offer them to the first names on the list.

Dave, just PM me your address and I'll try and get one sent tomorrow (if I can find a suitable box) - I'll let you know postage cost (less than £2 I believe) and bank details once I've sent it.

One thing I forgot to mention, I couldn't find any mains cable in the loft but I found plenty of ribbon cable. It's actually less cumbersome and I've made it 2½ metres long to give plenty of flexibility. If you don't need it as long or if you want to run it throught the hole in the back of the glovebox as I've done with mine, then you'll find screw connections in the red connector shell.

I am still interseted, but if others have an urgent need I can wait (currently no. 7 I believe).

My turbo creep has been resolved and I am currently enjoying being able to accelerate with abandon again.

Of course you never know what the future holds with a Lotus.

This I know from painful (read expensive) experience with my Elite.

Hi Geoff

I've been off the forum for a couple of weeks and I see that you've made some interfaces! Nothing too urgent at the moment, as I've got a busy time up until Xmas, so probably won't be able to do much actual work on the car.....

However, when you are able (I hope you're recovering/feeling better), I'd like to have an interface with 2m black cable. My USB to serial adapter arrived a couple of days ago - seems good for £3 or so!

A quick reminder to anyone buying buying a USB-serial converter to use with a serial ALDL interface that only FTDI based designs are known to work and those only if you set the latency timer to 1ms. Prolific devices would not work (last time I looked).
