DAM!

Dave, I have been so wrapped up in my project that I did not take time to read through your work. Nicely done! :D I did not realize that we are both at about the same point with things. I still have the original IHII turbo for now and was going to keep it on for the brake-in period then I was going to do the Thunderbird upgrade.

By the way, I never knew white could look that good

Here's an updated shot of the engine bay. The intake will be changed to incorporate the BOV discharge being routed back in (it will relocate the filter more toward the top right ) plus I have to figure out what to do with the old intercooler pipe hole, but the it is mostly done. Note the sides of the engine bay where I've tried to hide or eliminate wires and hoses in an effort to "clean up" the looks. The main wiring harness was one big item that was relocated along with the remaining VSV on the right side.

You know, I could go into such a long technical and experience-laden diatribe here but I already need to get my ass & go. Until I have a lot more time suffice it to say that it sure is a shame we don't all live in the same city: we'd end up wrenching & planning each other's cars and have 5-times the fun!

Plus, like having a workout buddy, you'd never let a weekend go by because it was "too cold, or raining, etc, etc." No one would want to be the 1st to give up!

Don't worry, you'd still have those nights where you wake up all alone at 4AM on your creeper on top of the cold garage floor, and look at your watch knowing the last thing you remembered it was only 1AM! Hey... it's still sleep!
Strive for perfection in everything. (given time)
Take the best that exists & make it better. (given inclination)
If it doesn't exist, create it. (God did)
Ignore what I say. (good advice)

Matt, you can not use this forum anymore until you start your own thread on the nitrous upgrade you are doing :D

Dave, what are you going to do with the big hole in the left fender now that there is no pipe coming through it? :smt102

DAM! White can only look this good on an Elan, any other car and it would be junk!

She looks great! (for white)

The only upgrade I would make from here is to paint it red :poke:

Just be thankful that your Elan is not green with yellow stripes

You guys know I am kidding ya

Know of any CPA firms for sale? :smt115 Our firm could have a "West coast" office both in Michigan and in the States as a whole. My wife would move in a heartbeat...

You're right, Ekapol. That would really throw off the weight balance of the car. Not to mention set me back on the work I've done to improve the power to weight ratio... :P

Why the white Elan has not been out lately... We finally got winter and it just kicked in the door! That's the temp in degrees F, not C. :?

Pipercross makes one (the Viper) and its expensive. K&N just released one called the Apollo which you can see on their website. I'm looking to install one this spring.

Hi gang! It is wonderful to finally be posting again. Some of you know of my last month or so, some of you don’t, but I wanted to give everyone an update of my current status.

Here’s the quick story: After a week of flu/aches, I was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia March 23. I quickly went downhill and developed what ended up being called a “parapneumonic effusion” (fluid around the lungs) which the doctors feared would be an empyema (get me sounding like a doctor). From what I understand an empyema is fluid that has the possibility of being toxic or infected. While the doctors did not tell us at the time, we found out later that this had them very worried – much more so than the pneumonia. The fluid around my right lung had basically collapsed the lung, though thankfully my left lung was left untouched. I had two different chest tubes inserted to drain all the fluid (almost 5 liters total) which took quite a bit of time. I was monitored via CT scans and chest x-rays and injected with various fluids into the chest cavity to make sure the fluid was leaving the two different “pockets” it had formed in, so I had my share of procedures during my stay. The overriding fear during the drainage phase was that fluid would remain and/or solidify and require surgery to clear up.

Thankfully after two weeks in the hospital the fluid was drained and the lung fully re-expanded. Despite some scarring on the lung and a small amount of tissue lost to the pneumonia, I hope to make a full recovery. I came home with IV tubing still hanging out of my arm as I had to do daily IV antibiotics for another two weeks, but now I have that out as well. The only thing now is time getting my energy back. I lost 20 pounds over the adventure (which I did not have to give in the first place!), so it’s a slow go getting that back. I do enjoy eating ice cream on doctor’s orders, though. :smt023 This has been a good week, but I still get pretty whipped after a full day of work (and I just sit at a desk). The doctors said it would take 2-3 months to get back to normal, but hopefully I can beat that. I just have to be careful not to push it too hard and get too tired.

All in all I consider myself to be a very lucky person. Lots of prayers and lots of blessings came my way and I’m excited to move on to see what’s next. Guess God has more in store for me down here! At the very least I’ve got to get all the strut bars delivered you folks have ordered…

Things haven’t been totally quiet on the Elan front. During my time in the hospital, the wheels I had ordered for the white car came in – and they look pretty good. http://outmotoring.com/team_dynamics_pro_race_1_2.html I’ve just had some new tires mounted, so they aren’t on the car yet, but should be soon (after I finally get time for the alternator – yes, still). Things will be done shortly as I’ve got a track day coming up later this month. In the meantime, I’ve been driving Peely quite a bit and really like the car. It runs/drives perfectly and the aftermarket exhaust (simply a Magnaflow muffler/tailpipe) has a fun, snarly growl to it. I’ve done a lot to my Subaru, too. When I could finally drive again (about a week after getting out of the hospital) I picked her up from the body shop where it had a bit of rust repair (after 272,000 miles). I’ve also sent the summer wheels off to be powder coated. Scooby will look brand new after all this!

An interesting time for sure, but glad to be back with you all. I have tons to do at work, as I couldn’t have missed a worse time of the year, so I’ll be to the site when I can while my schedule gets back to “normal”. In the meantime I’ll try to catch up and find out what you all have been up to! Take care all…
