That doesn't sound right. The Elan has a very efficient demist/ventilation system.
Check all the obvious stuff:
- Does air come out the correct vents when you use the selector switch? If not check the vacuum tubing is connected from the plenum all the way to the selector.
- Is your car wet inside? If so fix the leaks and dry it out with a dehumidifier (electric or silica gel).
- Does the heater come up to temperature? If not check the thermostat.

the air blows well thru the right vents, the car is not wet inside and it gets hot. if i use the wipers on a damp/wet screen it seems to fog on the outside aswell untill the inside clears

You can get a can of chemicals from Halfords that you smear onto the inside of the screen. They also sell impregnated wet wipes that double up for cleaning the babies bum. I have been told that vinegar does the job but I haven't tried it.

Try RAINEX
The regular Rainex goes on the outside of your windscreen and the water just runs off. The Rainex Antifog goes on the inside and helps demisting, can be used on inside windows, motorbike visors etc, works a treat.
