Bob, yours is built but not proven (I've had problems which eventually turned out to be my laptop serial port being U/S - quiet, don't tell John_W). I hope to check it out in the next couple of days then I'll send it off. I've looked at the cheap USB to serial converter I bought and I believe it would work if it wasn't broken - it's output is OK but the input is U/S! What a weekend!:evil:

Gasser and Ailwyn : I dropped them in to village PO this afternoon but I may have missed the stagecoach - you should get them tomorrow or Wednesday.

Ailwyn - I've put a switch on the service mode plug so you can plug it in at home and let the garage change to service mode when they need to. Let me know what you think.

Please add me to the list for a serial interface. My car is BRG with black interior so I'll leave it up to you to colour match me (as Trinny and Susanah seem to be busy).

I don't currently have a laptop but can probably arrange one from work.

Please can you add me to your list. I`ve been after a cable for a couple of years. Got an old Toshiba laptop with 15 pin serial and USB 1 but i guess serial would be better.

The Elan`s over-fuelling & i may have a fighting chance of making it run properly if i could measure some parameters. The suspects are: fuel pump, injectors, pressure regulator, ECU.

I`ve replaced anything else you may care to mention. Oh, Its another NA !!

If you can make me one i would be quite grateful!

It has been a bit temperamental on here tonight. I've got a workaround on my laptop serial port failure so I hope to have some more checked out in the next couple of days.

Serial interfaces are usually 9 pin (or 25 pin if you've got a very old computer). Could you please confirm you have got a 9 pin serial port (two rows of 5 & 4 pins, usually labelled "10101" or similar) and that you're not looking at the video output (usualy 3 rows of 5 sockets).

Udate time: I've sorted my broken-serial-port-on-laptop problem and I'm able to test the interfaces out now. I've also bought in some more ALDL plugs, so by the weekend I should have managed to build up and test the 4 serial sets requested (BobC, JPGuillon, GPT27 & Oliver). I'll PM you when they're ready, then parcel them up and send them out early next week with Al's ALDL plug.

Dapinky and Ailwyn, I'll bring your interface/kit to the Queen's Head :wink:

Excellent. Thanks for that Ailwyn.

It comprises an ALDL plug and switch so you can take the car to a garage and let them set the base timing without any hassle. I'd have to cost it up, but it would only be a few quid (hundred dollars :lol:

). Does anyone else want one?
