Are they painted or powder coated?

I got mine done in Melton Mowbray at Alloy Wheel Repair. It's a one man band as he doesn't trust others to do it right.

He did a good job for £50 a wheel plus got me the michelins for cost. They are painted. Mine were badly in need of refurb as they were not looked after, wish I had taken some before piccies.

I found him after following another thread on wheels. Friendly guy who is willing to give you lots of advice on keeping your wheels in good nic.

Because I couldn't leave my car with him he stuck on some renault steels to keep me on the road. They didn't look nice and obviously I had to drive gently but it kept me going.

I got followed home one night by two dodgy looking kiddies in a white Supra! :shock:

But the mean green sports machine lost them naughty b-boys. :roll:

The bolt heads should be 19mm for SE wheels and 17mm for S2s.
That said, you can swap your SE wheels for S2s and use your 19mm bolts, but when fitted they're very close to the inside edge of the recess. I believe that this was the (or one of the) reason(s) for the change.

that's when I moved to NoCal -- before she grew the stripes :-D

given the length of the car and that 66% of the weight is on the front axle, I spun her 'round to keep the tongue weight on the trailer light. Blue tape applied to the bottom of the hood to keep the wind from getting under there (hood not designed to be going 80MPH backwards :shock:

went well and this would be how I'd recommend anyone trailer them in this fashoin.

The Elan I bought this year had the wheels chromed. The guy chromed then when he bought the car then garaged it until I bought the car. Now, that was likely 10 years ago but the wheels never even saw the road. Sure enough, the chrome is flaking off (had already started doing it when it was delivered) and is startting to peel a lot now that its being driven.

Still, I think they look significantly better than the stock flat aluminum like finish and make the not-so-nice-looking stock wheels look pretty good. Apparently, there's a chrome finish paint out there that may be a better choice than actually chroming the wheels.
