Roughly 1k miles was put on this exhaust, a SS one from SJ Sports Cars. The pre-cat-housing & downpipe are Jet-Hot coated. This exhaust was just removed & has not yet been cleaned. Notice how the heat has put a patina on the forward & middle sections of the SJ exhaust; while the part exposed to the most heat of all still looks brand-new. A testament, I'd say.

The relatively unclogged path (no cat-converter) which the Euro exhaust enjoys. This also keeps a significant heat source away from the engine, compressor, etc. Remember, this was the "light-off" converter placed close to the engine to heat-up quickly!

Good catch Monty. Corrected that to... Have the boost set at between .5bar/.6bar

Thanks, Matt

Why not more :?

Do you have your T-Bird turbo yet? Mine is on the way, I would like to talk to you about your plans on this upgrade. I have been working with Top End Performance on a set-up for mine that uses the stock injectors and then a second set mounted to the open ports on the intake plume (just like you had on your old red Elan's nitro set-up), our target boost is 1.5 bar and then the second set of injectors will use their own computer system. I am just getting started on this so I would like to know your plans.

I'm just sticking with .94bar. My goal is to get there immediately & stay there. The T-bird compressor-wheel will allow for a much quicker spool and I've done the wastegate-mod, machining it to a much larger opening so boost creeeeep beyond .94bar won't be an issue. Once I get the boost adjusted to .94bar I'll stick on the MAP-clamp so I won't have to worry about going slightly across the line from time to time. All in all it will be just like my old setup (without the whole nitrous deal) except I won't spend hardly any time watching the car spool-up to .94; it will just get & stay there. That & to have the shiniest engine-bay ever seen, even far exceeding Old Red. That's the picture.

No, not like that. Nothing you'll be able to see. It will truly blind you. Tune in a few days from now when it gets really cold & I'm trapped inside... I'll post up some stuff I've got waiting to go on; not all, but I'll give you a taste. Don't want to unwrap everything again until I'm ready to put it on, but I'll undo some of the larger bits so you can see.

OK Doc, you can see what time of the morning it is. I'll leave a key under the matt. What time tomorrow will you be by to wrap back up all these parts again? These are out of the "little" box, and the plastic-parts are not back from Excaliber Plating yet either. My plan is to do all this at once, probably the last piece of the puzzle will be the USA-specific pieces of the Amber Performance hose kit. Somehow parts from my prior car fell off and were sent out to be plated, while their exact counterparts are still doing their stoic duty in Whitey. Weird huh?

NICE! :D

Ok, get your as* in gear and get that stuff on your motor :D

Man, I love the way that turbine housing looks, that is nice!

I guess we went different paths, I was trying to have every aspect of the motor look factory new.

I think there's a new Jet-Hot office cropped up in Matt's garage

why not cut a viewing window in the bonnet like some high end exotics do ??

Hey Costas, good to hear from you! I'll put it this way. I adjusted the boost to just shy of the cutoff tonight; I only hit it once out of a half-dozen runs at my final setting... which I think is pretty good. As such I installed the MAP-clamp. I installed it reverse first, which the car didn't like (cranked but wouldn't even start), so I simply reversed it and all is swell. Since I'd done all the wiring already to plug into the stock 3-prong it was a 30-second job to simply unplug, turn 180-degrees, and press it home again. Now it runs even better; all in my mind I'm sure, but that's my story & I'm sticking to it!

Manifold Atmospheric Pressure. This is converted into a voltage amount to supply to the ECU so it knows how much fuel to squirt into the engine, amoung other things. 4.5-volts represents .94bar of manifold pressure. The MAP-clamp simply "clamps" the voltage reported to the ECU at 4.5-volts, regardless of the actual manifold pressure. So when running above .94bar it lies & says We're still at .94bar here, have a nice day mate!

So it is a Fuel Cut Defencer (FCD)

Where did you get yours?

Also, how are you making sure that it does not run to lean?

Won't this cause it to run very rich at low boost also?

No as it limits the voltage output from the MAP Sensor only when it reaches the set value (4.5V in this case) prior to that the voltage rises with an increase in Manifold pressure as normal. It will however perpetuate the over enrichment delivered by the stock ECU at high boost levels (believed to be deliberate in order to minimise the possibility of detonation caused by it running lean at higher boost). The enrichment is such that at the boost levels the standard turbo is capable of providing and sustaining (.94 bar is in that range) lean running should never be an issue.

Before ESMs chips this was the preferred option for running more boost a manual boost control and a Fuel Cut Defeater or Clamp.
