I now have had 2 cars with the Toyo T1R and T1S tires. The 1st was a 2004 VW Jetta GLI 1.8T with 225/40/18 tires. The handling and grip was incredible at low speeds. The problem was at higher speeds 70mph plus the car was hard to control.

I changed the tires to Kumho Ecsta and the high speed problems went away.

On the 2nd car a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spider I have a nearly new set of Toyo T1S tires. This car had the same driving characteristics as the VW only worse at high speeds 60mph plus. This car was absoutely scary to drive. I initially checked the air pressure and it was set at 32 front and 34 rear. I lowered it to 26 front and 30 rear. It seems to have made a difference but the front end is very light at high speeds and requires quite a bit of concentration to drive. It has been since the 70's since I have driven on tires with the air pressure that low. The factory tire sizes are 185/55/15 front and 205/50/15 rear.

I also have a 1995 BMW M3 with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires size 235/40/17. These have the same tread design as the Toyo's. These tires have been great at all speeds and in all driving conditions.

Bottom line is I will not be buying any more Toyo Proxes T1R or T1S tires..........

Thanks all for the reply. So I got Toyo T1-R 225/45-16 fitted 2 days ago.

They feel great. Soft and quieter ride, better grip, smoother launch. That's what you got with any new tires anyway Cornering is more like leaning in with grip - response is there. Havn't really try much with them. I don't have problem at > 70 mph. Couldn't really give longish comments cause they are too new. First impression seems very good. Will try different air pressure, 31 front 29 rear at the moment.

Don't plan to spend the same amount next time though

I need a couple of tyres for the front but having read the mixed reports I'm not going down the Toyo route. You're a braver man than me Ekapol.

Not brave at all. Just that I'd been driving with the tiny spare ~50 mph on the freeway for few days I should have waited and ordered the other tires but it will take a week more. Need my daily commute and I could have Toyo by the next day. Time might tell that I was just crazy

I have 205/50 15 T1R's on the front of mine with T1S's on the back. I can report excellent performance in all conditions at all speeds.

Those people experiencing problems with the T1R should just drop the pressures a bit.

I have 31 front, 29 at the rear. When I feel like having them softer I have 30 at the front, 27 rear. How much pressure do you have in your?

I'd go a few psi higher on the front for spirited driving, Ekapol

Roger that I will try to go back to 34 front again. Last time the tires were kinda dry and my pressure gauge was off by -5 so I had 39 front 34 rear very nervous drive.

My new set is quite grippy. 34 should be fun

I went for 32psi all round as per the handbook. Still no problems after about 4k miles. Total grip in all conditions.
