here's the issue: my new laptop with XP will sometimes pop up a window which would normally include a button for me to press in the window--such as to allow or install something -- problem is this window is sometimes too small such that I can't read the whole message or see the button to press it!!

the window does not have sliders on it, so it is just too small for its purpose

question is: how to I remidy this, O computer gods ?? :bowdown:

Is it a display size/settings thing, perhaps?

I think it's just a feature.

I have the same problem with my anti-spyware software, everything else is fine, but when that pops up a message the text on the buttons are obscured by the message text.

As yet, I've found no solution (not that I've looked very hard).

I've had some of these problems intermittently before. You could try clicking somewhere on the window and then pressing the "End" key.

so is there some setting somehow in Windows to change?

it gives me no option to resize the window or use sliders or scroll down the text or even highlight the text.

I am unable to push the buttons I need to push on a few things I need to do -- if I ran the computer in safe mode (for example) would it change this somehow and then allow me to see what I need to get to?

OK Mr. Grumpy. Wrong time of the month or something?

It's difficult to diagnose without seeing it, but the only thing I can think of is to use the magnifier: |Start|Programs|Accessories|Accessibility|Magnifier|. You should get a banner across the top of the screen which is a magnified image of where your mouse is pointing. Can you see anything of interest?

interesting, but magnifier only shows me what I can alreadt readily see. It may be helpful for old eyes like yours, but I don't think it can help me see things I can't otherwise see . . .

I just wondered if there was something there which had been scaled down so small you couldn't see it.

If/when it happens again, grab a screen image (press the <Print Screen> button, then go into an imaging package e.g. Paint then <Paste> and <Save> the image) and let us have a look.

Have you used Windows Update? Maybe its a graphics driver issue.

If you press the Tab key it will cycle you through the buttons in the messagebox, even if you cannot see them. Press TAB and ENTER and you should be able to move on.

I suspect that your DPI setting is set to Large or Custom.
Right click on the Desktop and go to "Properties" on the menu which is shown. Go to "Settings" tab and then press the "Advanced" button. Change the DPI [Display] Setting to "Normal" or "Small" which is 96dpi.

I presume you've got a widescreen laptop (flash bugger) and the pop-up box is assuming it is a more standard format (4:3).

If you change the aspect ratio of the display, you may be able to work around it, then put the diplay back to normal once you're finished:-

Right mouse on your desktop.
|Properties|Settings|Screen resolution|.
REMEMBER WHAT IT IS SET TO SO YOU CAN GO BACK TO IT!
Change the aspect ratio and see if you can see the options.
