Maybe a little homework would have helped. Bought a set of plug wires for an Isuzu Impulse. Just tried to install them. For those of you who are not already laughing, the wires are not even close in length.
So, 2 questions. Where to get the correct wires and second, what is with the moulding at the end of the cam cover, where the wires are routed into the spark plug bay? rubbery black goo press in over the top of the wires to seal them against the plug bay cover. Is that a factory technique, or was the person that last changed the wires just a tad anal retentive? Pretty sloppy.

Second Question: Mine has no junk. It is simply an open slot which the wires exit. Don't know if this is standard but would pick mine over your set up. There is no reason to seal the area dust free, but looks better with the cover and the deep socket wells are better left without debris falling in.
First question: I bought the magnecor wires because I have more money than sense. They fit right, are no longer the weakest link in the system, and someone else worked out any problems before I got my fat fingers on it. Hunt on here for part number cross references for cheaper options. Doug has written alot on the magnecour and the debate rages on. I have never been unhappy with mine.

There should be a plastic clip with 4 apertures that fits on a pin into the cam cover. The black gunk is somebody's botch job.

Adding to Sly's comment, in case you don't understand, the spark plug cables clip into the apertures to hold the wires in place when going into the spark plug area of the head.
As for purchasing the wire, I purchased mine through http://www.apexperformance.net. For some reason, they do not show a listing for Lotus. However, my invoice dated back in March 2005 show the following information: Magnecor Wires - 45286 - 8.5mm for 1991 Lotus Elan. The cost was: $91.68
On more thing, when installing the wire make sure to use electrical grease on the end of the plugs. For some reason, the plugs slightly corrode and like to fuse to the wires. If you don't do this, about 12k ~ 15k later when you change your plugs, you'll find yourself pulling the wire and having part of the wire that clips to your plug stock to the plug; thus, pretty much a ruined wire.

I installed some Robie Robot ignition cables over the weekend. It has probably been written before: make certain that you dress the wires away from the shift lever mechanism so it doesn't rub on the cables.

Checked out the Kingsborne web site and, yep, their cables are a great price at $36.75 US and was about to order, but I baulked at the $191.50 for postage, apparently they offer no alternative other than UPS Saver (!).
Incidentally, would these have fitted given some of the previous threads about their length being incorrect?
Ah well back to good old rip off Britain @ £80.00 a set I guess.
