exhaust options ?

Hi<br><br>I've got a hole in my Elan SE's front pipe and am looking to replace...<br><br>It currently has a stainless box on the back, however i'm tempted to get the whole lot done and get a sports box on there...<br><br>what options are available ?<br><br>I see that SJ have a full stainless system for £220. Anyone know of these ? Are they the sports version ?<br><br>I've also been told that a company called Quicksilver :<br><br>http://www.racecar.co.uk/quicksilverlotus/<br><br>are highly reccommended. Anyone have info on the LO044S - Elan SE Turbo - 'Sports' system NFP system ?<br><br>the Elan is not modified, does it makes better sense to get a larger diameter system ? I may be tempted to upgrade with the chip available here. If you want to eventually upgrade chip-wise, you'll be needing one of the 2.25 or 2.5" systems for sure.<br>Which one...? Jury's out on that one.  I have the PM and I love it, but each to his own on the sound.

PM is IIRC £399+VAT or a hundred pounds dearer if fitted.<br>Spec is 2.25" S/S with a round tail pipe which tends to come out of the rear a little skew which some people don't like...

Got mine from SJS stainless for about £200<br><br>Great sound IMO but a lot quieter than sport options.  Can't remember size but deffo 2 or bigger.

i have just found out i have a bbr kit fitted and when the turbo kicks the boost gauge reads 1 bar .. i have a sj sport exhaust 2" dia seems like a bottle neck if you know wot i mean. it has to go.... the paul matty exhaust is it ok for track days.. if i order this is it easy for a garage to fit as i asked my local garage he said 45 quid a hour ..this could be a days work??? i live in wiltshire do you think its best for paul matty to fit this ...

If they take a day to fit a made to measure exhaust, and charge 45 quid an hour, I'd check for spurs and a ten-gallon hat!<br>

ok who has a paul matty i think they can replace the pre cat ,, its only a short pipe they want just over 100 quid  for this pipe ripe off  ???..is there any custom exhaust suppliers local wilts ,,, ??? maybe janspeed...

Thought i`d stick this here,

Since i had to drop the exhaust to take the engine out of pinky 1, i couldn`t believe how much lotus squashed the front pipe where it goes over the prongeron. No wonder peeps gain so much from an aftermarket exhaust.

yes, same here.



It's amazing how squished the squish over the front frame is. I measured it as an 8" long squashed section which takes it down to the equivalent of a 1.75" diameter pipe. It gets worse when you calculate the cross-sectional areas:

2" diameter (standard): 3.142 sq in
flattened section (standard): 2.5 sq in
2.25" diameter: 3.976 sq in.
2.5" diameter: 4.909 sq in.

The squish loses 20% of the cross-sectional area of the standard exhaust. Therefore a 2.25" exhaust effectively increases the area (compared to the squished pipe) by 60%.

I can recommend Torque Technique in Wilton, as they built my custom exhaust. It wasn't cheap but I did spec a pre cat eliminator, a flexible section to allow for movement of the engine on its mounts a removable section that allows me to drop the main cat out and the main cat modified to a 2 1/4 inlet and outlet to improve flow when fitted. I also have a second straight through silencer to keep it quiet. All in all about £600 but if you go for a lower spec it will cost a lot less, quality of the work is good as is the service.

Looks like the S2 exhaust is even more restrictive. Here's a picture I found of one with squish and cat. (Somebody's currently selling one of these on ebay for £195 )
