Why do things break as soon as you have fixed other bits ?

We are getting there slowly.

Oliver,

Good to hear from you. It's not just me that gets 'involuntary project creep' then ;)

I'll post some pics of where I'm at soon.

Cheers

Hello Jim,

No it`s just ongoing bits and pieces. The old thing probably only leaves the garage about once a week and i`m aware that it probably wouldn`t break so often if it was a daily driver but i`m trying to polish a turd, if you know what i mean.

I was looking forward to these two weeks off work (i have had an operation on my nose), that was last Thursday, but i hadn`t reckoned with the potency of the G.A. I feel a bit spaced still - so i`m fiddling and not doing anything heavy.

Regards

Oliver

Hi Doug,

Kent wing here - I didn`t go specifically looking for an NA originally, it just so happened that my godfather`s daughter (who is a long haul stewardess with British Airways) decided to sell it, and as she and her husband had owned the car for some years, it was an easy buy, with loads of expensive invoices for servicing etc. Obviously no one had ever bothered with any tuning or modification, it was dirty and covered in fungus / mould and spiders etc, but using my experience gained during my time with Eagle Racing (now Eagle E types) the famous classic restoration company, i realised that the turd would respond very well to polishing.

Apparently there were several Elans owned by BA cabin crew, i didn`t find out if they were all NA`s - being trolley dollies cars i suppose they must have been!

Having owned turbocharged petrol engined cars, i know what i am missing, but i think the Elan`s main attributes are elsewhere, specifically handling and looks. I wouldn`t mind an SE or S2 in Norfolk Mustard, but i`m attached to the old girl now. I suppose i could sell our other cars but i have the ability to buy brilliant cars which no one else wants and are worthless (see list below).

She was very faded Calypso Red but after five years spent applying Meguiars carnauba wax she`s still pink, just very shiny (that must be worth 5mph)

Regards

Oliver

Here`s my garage queen NA and our other car: two Metro front subframes in close formation....

They are actually rather good cars.

If memory serves me correctly, that little baby has no power steering either. I am envious of you for that because I think it is a waste time, money, space and most importantly, WEIGHT.

I doubt an Elan is very heavy without the power assistance?
