That's how I read it.

I think that's as much as we know - just remember that it was cheaper for Doc Fiz to send alternators over the pond than it was for us to buy them in the UK. It's got to be a bargain at ~2$/£, especially for a man who can afford AP's.

Thanks guys. I'm closing it off with this list. If you see an error after your name please update it accordingly. Please don't add any new names after #11 as I am dispatching a check for US$1416.81 to Stan Fuller, which is the price posted to me uncoated. -Matt-

If you are already Peco'd you don't need a front pipe. As for the continuing banter over a combined PCE/Frontpipe, it would have to welded to the bottom of the PCE funnel. Better I think, for me to inquire into the shop making a front-pipe-stub encompassing the 3-bolt-flange, a short 90-degree-mandrell pipe, and another short-piece to get you straight & level. If you still have a stock, or any other 2" system, you are a candidate for this. I will enquire as to its price this week.

As for those who are on the fence pending circumstances, I understand your situation and commiserate. Unfortunately this is not a money-making venture for me. As such I cannot order one for you hoping that your situation will allow you to follow-through with a purchase.

Matt, I've got a custom, 2.25" system which was mated to the old 2" just after the downpipe turns. A reducer was used and all was welded up together. So, I'm still connected to the OEM downpipe and there's no flex section at all.

I don't want to complicate things at all. I just can't help thinking that a welded pre-cat/downpipe combo is better than one which has a break in it connected by the flanges. Maybe its not a big deal at all and I profess little to no knowledge in this area. In a perfect world, I suppose it would be a one-piece PCE/downpipe pice I could mate to the system I have in place now.

Having said this, I suspect this may cause problems with the JH coating. If this one-piece terminated after the bend in the downpipe as just an open end that could be welded to the existing system could it even be JH coated? How could you weld the JH coated end to another SS section? Can you weld the coating? Would they leave a couple of inches at the end of the pipe uncoated so it could be welded?

More than just a few quesiotns  I could call JH if you like though if you think its worth while looking into or do we take a pass and go with the JH coated PCE and separate uncoated downpipe/flex portion?????

It's just too out of step with the design of the system, and counter to what everyone has. Of course it's easy to find someone who can weld; so, if anyone wants to weld it all together, it can surely be done.

On the prior page you requested I order you a flex-section, which I did. I am assuming you want both the PCE & front-pipe JH-coated, correct?

I agree, its not worth the trouble to go further with this thought. I do want the PCE JH coated. As for the downpipe I'm a bit confused so please bear with me.

From what I saw of the pics you posted, the downpipe was a 60 degree (or so) bend coming off the pre-cat (or PCE), welded to a flex section which is welded to a another short straight section and then to another flange

Image

If so, then I'm thinking that what I'll need in terms of the downpipe would be the bend, the flex then a short run off the flex that terminates without a flange as I'd have my guy weld it straight on to the exisitng 2.25" exhaust using a reducer. That means the entire downpipe piece needs to NOT be JH coated as he'll need to be able to weld steel-to-steel to connect it all up. That is unless JH can coat it all and leave me a few incches at the end of the run ubncoated so there's room to weld it all together.

Does this make sense????

Yes. I'll have him weld on the flex then stop, as anyone can weld straight sections of pipe on.

Perfect Matt, thanks so much! Tell me where to send the cash. I don't mind paying now or, if you're not sure of the total including shipping yet, then a downpayment so you don't have to be paying out all the cash yourself.

I'll do some research to see what percentage Paypal keeps from each transaction, and await shipping costs and coating costs, and anything else which might pop up, before giving everyone a final tally.

Stan just called. He said they are working on them now & that they will be shipped to me in a couple of days. When I get them I'll ship most to Jet-Hot for coating.

Gentlemen in the UK; please select someone to receive the parts I am turning over to Her Majesty.

General Information:
Paypal fees are 2.9% of the transaction PLUS $0.30 USD / .15 GBP

To keep things simple I'll add that to your tally (when I know it). So, the final amount I state will be the total amount you owe me.

I'm now curious to know what people's experiecne has been (if any) with boost creep once the pre-cat is removed and with a 2.25" free fow exhaust installed. This would be specific to a Fed car which has 2 cats on it (and assumes you're still keeping the primary cat). From the few people I've heard from who have removed the pre-cat they don't seem to mention boost creep.

If the pipes are coming off to install all this new gear AND there's a good chance there'll be boost creep I might as well go all the way and port the wastegate although I'd prefer not to do that unless I have to.

Comments?

Mine crept after putting the Peco on. It didn't before with the stock exhaust, but there was nothing in either the pre-cat or main cat. I think you'd be as well to port it.

Thanks Geoff, seems to me that most (possibly all??) of the bosst creep issues have happened outside of North America. Probably because those cars have only one or no cats at all. I'm still going to have the main cat on so I don't think the exhaust will be as free flowing as those on cars overseas.

The problem (and reluctance) I have with porting the wastegate is that it will now become a 2 shop job. I don't think I'll trust the exhaust shop to remove the turbo, port it and put it all back togetehr again properly - that will be a Lotus shop job. And, I don't want the Lotus shop to do the exhaust as they don't have the tools to do the custom work required. PLUS, if I do the wastegate I'll probably want to JetHot coat the pipe directly off the turbo (wastegate manifold its called) so now the car will have to sit in the shop for a few weeks while the pipe gets done.

So you see, porting the wastegate gets to be a real pain in the a$$ and I'd rather avoid it unless I really need to do it.

Why not remove the pre-cat and see if you get boost creep, if you do then you can assess the options/impact.

If you do end up with boost creep it just means being careful about hard accelerations until you get it ported.

Well, I can't really remove it until I get the eliminator in. I've nothing to put in its place right now (if this is what you meant). I am leaning to leaving the wastegate, seeing what happens and figuring next steps if it becomes a problem. Unless someone has direct experience with boost creep with the pre-cat being removed that is. One would think that with the main cat still in, boost creep "shouldn't" be an issue :fingers crossed smilie:
