This may sound like a strange question but how does the PECO exhaust sound compared to the standard one? Is it louder? More sporty?

If its not too much trouble, could someone with one fitted make a sound recording?

It's like the difference between you humming and Pavarotti singing!
I think the Peco is much better fabricated and more discreet than mine, which you can hear with pleasure if you give me a yell.
It is a very nice system indeed - in fact I haven't seen better for the Elan, and an excellent price too.
Just make sure if you go for it that you get somewhere like Kwik Fit to do it for you. They can get the gas-axe on any stubborn nuts and bolts, and have all the kit for giving unlimited access to fit it properly. Well worth £40-50 rather than struggling yourself.

Just to repeat what I wrote in the original peco exhaust thread from '06:-

The noise is just fantastic! It's a satisfying purr on tickover or cruise, and a great roar on power application... juuuust under the noise level which would have people thinking a Vauxhall Nova with 59" wheels, tinted windows, and 10 grand of 'ice' was approaching - instead of one of Hethel's finest...

The PECO system gives the exhaust note a fantastic burbly resonance and on changedown or decelleration will pop, bang and fart nicely too. I think it makes the Elan sound like a proper sports car should (think more TVR sound than MGF and you'll get the drift) I've had mine since June '06 without any problems - £250 well spent IMO inc. free fitting ! They may be about £300 now though ?

If you can wait a couple of months you'll here a few PECO's revving up in the MOTO services area prior to the usual Donington convoy

ive got a peco waiting to go on, very exited now after reading all those comments. id be happy to record the peco when it goes on, ive also recorded the standard exhaust (with a few holes) so i can compare them. they will both be on video, (with an expensive mic attatched) but i will try to pull the sound off. oh and the peco is just over £300 delivered at the moment. and dave is a bloody nice chap.

couldnt convince the local ATS to fit it for me, so im gonna try a kwik-fit tomorrow, failing that i should be able to get it into a local garage next week.

Out of interest, did it come supplied with or without the inner (inside the oval) circular pipe?

it was bought a couple of weeks ago, im not entirely sure what your asking, so i'll post a picture tonight, but inside the oval pipe there is a circular pipe recessed 6" or so down, which is welded to an oval insert. i imagine pics will be more use.

Peco's solution to this issue was to remove the inner circular pipe.

I was just wondering if Peco had now revised their design and were selling systems with the inner pipe removed or if they were still selling the system as previously constructed which may lead to screeching issues for some buyers.

It sounds like the circular pipe is now recessed but a photograph would be good.

just picked up my car with her new peco, its boarderline anti-social and i love it, im sure it will settle down soon, but wow! i'll get a video done asap, and i'll do another one when its settled down a bit too. If your after fuel economy dont get this, you just end up thrashing it just to hear the noise, or reving needlesly to see if you can make it cough and splutter. Also i did feel a difference, its picks up better, and i got a bit more wheel spin in second.

Thats cause your now running about 200bhp

not yet im not, but it wont be long.

2000rpm off throttle sounds awsome, lots of popping and crackling. but on throttle 2000rpm goes almost silent, certainly compared to the rest of the rev range.

although i did get the dredded boost creep at around 80 in third, which was interesting.
