Broken hood

Postby Galsia » Fri 21.03.2008, 14:20

With a week to go until Dnnington I'm in a bit of a panic.

I went toput my hood down and heard a bolt fall out. I've looked everywhere and I can't find it.

Unfortunately its not just a case of putting another but and bolt in there because it appears to have been a special nut that is flush with the bar. A normal nut and bolt will catch.

How can I fix this? I can't put my roof down at the moment. :(

Put a cable tie on it as a 'very' temporary measure :P

I am not sure what that bolt part number is but you could try SJ Sportscars http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/partsandaccessories/parts.asp
Type in hood and several bolts are listed. They may be open on Tuesday.
May be worth a go if no one else can help in the meanwhile.
Good luck

A button head screw should do it. Bet you can pick one up from Donny, or even one of the Geordie comics?
I think everyone should check theirs as its a common problem.

Geordie comics?

Yeah it does look like a button screw. What stops it from coming out of the other end though? There isn't a nut on the other side...

Maybe one of the bars is threaded or has a captive nut? I can't remember, its been a while since I tightened mine up (caught it early ;-) ).

Geordie comics = Chief moderator Geoffsmith and King of bling Deaitch (?) aka shortshift Dave as me and Murph refer to him.
They like nuts and bolts.

As a quick fix I've used a couple of cable ties. I'll send surferphil a PM.

as a word of warning to everyone, you will start to hear new creaks from the hood when these nuts start to come loose. Thats the time to open up your Elan tool kit and tighten up the bolts with the allen key supplied.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Is it one of these?

Check it's not on the hood spring. I bought a car and the hood was wonky. Until I found a bolt wedged into the spring.

Yes as PaulP can witness it is a bit embarrasing when it starts to p*ss down , you go to put your hood up and it all goes limp !

Yeah that happened to me. It also broke one of my B-post caps off but I think it can be glued back on.
